You have a slightly older version of boxee, but I suspect you are struggling with Flash based video, which Im afraid to say is pretty abysmal on the 1st gen atv. If you want, you can use the tag in my signature to test which version of flash you have installed. You can try another flash version, but you you will have to install it manually. Can I recommend you try some of the third party repo's like navi-x before you throw the atv in the trash.
Find out what ver of flash you have and we can start there.
Look below. Open up boxee browser, enter the url and let me know.

The good news is that you have a flash player installed. The bad news is that the quality of the video will not get much better than what you are experiencing. Unlike frontrow and itunes content that uses the apple gpu, boxee is unable to take advantage, and relies upon firefox/flash (atleast within the atv) to render content. At best video through flash base apps is choppy, at worst it does not work. The good news is that there are great apps that work great like navi-x, pandora, justin.tv (works okay for me even though it uses flash), ted.....
You could try updating boxee and the flash player. Its not that complicated but you will need to have a mac and have an app that utilises sftp (cyberduck)

First, contact Firecore to see if you can update flash versions from within their maintenance area.
I hate to sound like a smart ass but you could have done this for free with atvusb-creator and probably got more. Please check out the boxee repo's. Add the navi-x app for one and I guarantee you will love this box. You can also install XBMC which is a media playing app also. There are some great plug-ins for that.
To install navi-x in boxee, follow this thread;

You dont need a mac to install a repo in boxee on the atv, or XBMC. If you have atvflash, you can dl them on the atv.

I literally have no idea what you are asking me. I have simply recommended you try to install the navi-x repo in boxee. I re-read what I posted and nowhere did I tell you to load anything onto a flash drive.
However, as I just won the lottery (:D) this is how you install Navi-x
1. Open Boxee.
2. Click on APPS
3. At the bottom of the screen on the left side, click on "Repositories"
4. On the left Side, click on "Add Repository"
5. In the address line, enter
http://navi-x.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/boxee
6. Click on DONE.
7. A new line will appear called "The navi-x repository..."
8. Click on the Navi-x repo. Select 'Add to my apps".
9. Open it and explore. I cant do that for you.
