It should be noted the blog states "week of the 15th bug release"

All the forum readers can do their part to keep sending in submissions with the accompanying crash-logs to help make the next release as good as it can be.

Agreed with the others advocating taking your time in getting the update out. Quality over quantity, er. . . or time. Whatever.

Hey, quick thought; Apple today released a Security Update for 10.4.11 along with the 10.5.6 updater. I wonder if that portends of another update to ATV to incorporate those very same security protections?

Maybe I'm missing it, but is there a way to get the latest version number available for download without starting the download and canceling it?

(or checking the forums)

If not, that would be really useful.

Thanks!

If on apple TV:

-Exit boxee
-Go to the appleTV menu
-Click on Boxee
-Click on Update

@ Robby -Secondary screen works if you drag the main screen to your other display

Doesn't that defeat the object of having it start up on the secondary display?

This is what i get when i try to start Boxee when i have the display set to my secondary screen in the settings:

http://e.imagehost.org/t/0243/boxee.jpg (http://e.imagehost.org/view/0243/boxee)

Also i don't seem to be able to enable display blanking in order to blank out the iMac display.

What you can't tell from this picture is the part that is blacked out is flickering badly with weird graphical glitches and random colours. I cannot move anything other than quit Boxee as essentially, other than Boxee, the computer has frozen.

This is the exact same problem i encountered with the previous release, yet the version before that, worked flawlessly. I could start Boxee via my remote and it would automatically display on my TV whilst blanking out my iMac screen.

I miss those days :(

EDIT: This was the grab i posted in the thread regarding the previous release and you can see better the sort of effect it has on my iMac.

Tried restarting again, this time using the restart menu. Same result

Do I need to restore ATV to factory, update, re-run the patchstick, and redownload Boxee?

Ten minutes so far of black screen.

no, that won't help. Its a problem with the new usb creator, they are working on a new one to fix this issue (or so i hear)....

you can try:
-press the menu button, this will take you back to the apple tv menu.
-if that works, try going to Movies > Top Movies then go back to Boxee..

-if that doesn't work, try power cyclying the apple tv and then go into Boxee again.

keep repeating those steps, eventually something will work

that would require replacing the remote xml files (which I had to do last release), and losing the entire library and waiting for it to be rebuilt.

kind of a slap and tickle workaround to me.

well, you could try just deleting ~/.boxee/UserData/apps and ~/.boxee/UserData/profiles/[profile]/sources.xml... but the best way is to delete the entire thing. just back the entire thing, first.

I've just installed Boxee on Ubuntu 8.10 using the intrepid apt repository. Most things work great. Seems that Hulu is the exception.

When I log in to Hulu I can watch a show featured on the first page but if I go to the TV list and try to select a series it continually acts like it's loading but never brings up the seasons or episodes list. If I try to back out of hulu all of the Boxee menus loose their icons, the background image of Boxee no longer shows and if I click on anything Boxee just crashes.

I watched the logs and this is what it starts complaining about when I select a TV series in hulu then back out of hulu.

These png files exist, so I'm not sure why it can't load them. The log is filled with Texture manager and malloc errors after this point until Boxee finally crashes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah, this is reproducible every time I navigate to hulu TV menus, sometimes it does let me get to the season list (ie. I select Fringe it will sometimes show Season 1) but if I select a season it will hang and load forever with similar statements in the log file.

If there is a way to get more verbose error messages or other debugging I can do just let me know.

Suddenly it seems to me that not many people are doing this...

Are you using Boxee to access content on another computer on your LAN, using IP but only inside your own LAN. not to go outside to Hulu, etc.?

Or am I one of a few?

I just uninstalled boxee, changed my apt sources.list to use the hardy repository instead of the intrepid repository. Installed again and hulu menus and playback works. For some reason the hardy boxee apt package works better on Ubuntu 8.10 than the intrepid boxee package. Not sure if this might be a problem with the python configuration in the intrepid package.

I'm not using an iMac, but I am accessing all my files off my LAN. I have a PC with 1TB storage and so Im accessing it through smb. Works fine, only problem I'm having is the way boxee recognizes some files... but that will surely be fixed in later builds

do you just set up an internet source and put in "smb://[yourremote IP]", or do you leave "smb://" off? and do you put in a fuller path to the content?

I usually just put in the IP adress for my NAS and it works.

gooroov
December 18th, 2008, 04:30 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, NAS is not the same as an external HD plugged into a computer, because the NAS has an IP but the external drive doesn't. So you have to address it with an arcane path like "Volumes/mydrive/Users/jeff/Movies".

Unless it's a spidering--running a background process that finds and makes a list of files ending ".avi".

If only it hdn't worked that first time, I wouldn't be obsessed with it now, trying to hack into it knowing literally nothing about how it works. Developers who cana't give me a clue.

Unfortunately, the ATV is useless without some way of playing non-Apple content, and this does that. So I just gotta hope. The devs are at least trying. but it seems like they got like an hour a day to work on it.

wish me luck!

ur trying to grab the files from the iMac, not an external harddrive correct?

I don't see what the problem is, go to Settings > Network > SMB Client, and then input your settings. Also, make sure that smb is turned on for your iMac.

I was having a hard time with the external drives plugged into my mac. I couldn't get boxee to see anything but my user folder. So I made symbolic links to each of my 500gb drives and put them in my user folder. Works like a charm.
