Running ubuntu 8.04 with a Prodigy HD2 soundcard (ICE1724 based)

I can play videos, but get no sound in music. xbmc.log gives the following error

18:55:40 T:3053684704 M:1106927616 INFO: PAP Player: Playing /home/martin/Music/dZihan & Kamien/Freaks & Icons/01 - After.mp3

18:55:40 T:3053684704 M:1123430400 ERROR: PAPlayer::Unable to create audio stream
18:55:40 T:2659023760 M:1123430400 INFO: PAPlayer: End of playback reached

Trying aplay during this time also results in a 'Device or resource busy'.

I previously tried switching to pulseaudio, which gave me music, but no sound in videos. I've reinstalled Ubuntu and started again with plain old ALSA. I've tried fiddling with .asoundrc, using plughw;0.0 as my sound device and nothing changes.

hi,

please try removing any asoundrc files, then change audio settings in boxee to 'iec958', and if does not work, to 'default'.

i have similar problems when i have an open movie (e.g. totem) and try to watch a youtube video with firefox. no audio because of busy device, so it must be a general ubuntu problem.

any experience on that?
