I've been using Boxee pretty heavily for almost 2 weeks, but the only thing posted to my profile is Batman Begins. From what I understand based on other threads, Boxee is using online sources to poll for metadata to do the indexing and presumably the profile updates. The primary thing I use Boxee for is watching fansubbed anime and Japanese dramas, which tend to have a lot of extra stuff in the file name. For example, this is what I have playing right now:

[Zeonic-Corps]_Mobile_Suit_Gundam_-_06_[640x480_H.264_AAC]_[357085BA].mkv

Even though Mobile Suit Gundam is listed in TheTVDB, Boxee is probably having trouble parsing names like that. I realize you guys are working on the indexing, but maybe there should just be a mechanism to fail gracefully. Like, if it can't figure out an IMDB or TheTVDB link for what you're watching, just post the raw file name to the user's account. It's not as useful as a nice link to more info about the show, but it's better than nothing.

hi.
well - the reason for only reporting stuff boxee identifies is mainly user's privacy. sending out the raw file name may have some very unwanted (and weird) results...

on our next version - you will be able to manually search for metadata and correct invalid information so things should look better :)

thanks. and welcome to boxee.

@vulkan:

While I agree completely in regards to spamming boxee/friends with a bunch of oddly named files, I think you should still be able to "Recommend" and "Rate" them. As it stands currently, neither are options on "unreconized" videos.

No matter how much you edit the metadata, music videos will never be found on IMDb. On the other hand, I may KNOW a friend of mine has a given song, and want to recommend it.

well, you may have a point about "recommending" stuff.
need to ask idan :)
