I understand why boxee wouldn't auto-populate vidoes with no meta-data to your friends. You wouldn't want to spam everyone with a bunch of oddly named downloads that there is no chance of them having.
But I think you should still be able to selectively recommend them to friends.
Say if I know a friend of mine has this same video.
As it is currently, the recommend option isn't even present on non-metadata videos.
I haven't tested this same scenario with music, but think it should work then same way.
