View Full Version : Indexing Logic

So I really dig that Boxee is indexing my content. It is doing exactly what I want and have been seeking for over a year. What I can't seem to find any information on is Boxee's indexing/categorizing logic.

When I choose "My Media" I see most of the TV Shows that I have in my library listed with art and descriptions. The listing by season and episode is awesome. However a few of the more obscure shows that I watch are not appearing unless I drill down into my media sources. Is there an XML file somewhere that I can add a show-type to? Where is Boxee finding this information? Is there anything I can do to add my shows to the Boxee db?

I don't mind drilling down, but file names = low Spouse Acceptance Factor.

Thanks for the great work!

thanks CntryDoe for this report.

the most important thing when looking for metadata is the file name (followed by the parent folder's name). boxee will try to find the relevant metadata and match it to the file, however - conflicts and false identifications do happen.

the next version will let you manually set metadata on files which werent automatically detected.
we try and keep improving our metadata retrieval mechanisms so hopefully you will not have to use manual resolution much.

thanks again and - welcome to boxee :)

Boxee uses TheTVDB.com (http://www.thetvdb.com) so check that your TV shows are listed there, if they are not then you can register to add them yourself as TheTVDB.com (http://www.thetvdb.com) is wiki-based and maintained by all of its end-users, which includes all Boxee and XBMC users as well.

The parent folder name should have the name of the TV serie (as listed on TheTVDB.com (http://www.thetvdb.com)), and the file name needs to contain season and episode number listed as S0xE0y where "x" is the season number and "y" is the episode (even mini-series needs to have a season number even if it just one 'season')

Ok this is driving me INSANE:confused:

I am trying to add my TV shows but they are not working at all.

For example, an episode from Entourage:

I named the folder containing my episodes as "Entourage"

The file is name "Entourage - s02e01"

This is NOT recognized by Boxee, and I am prompted to enter it manually with my remote.

I painfully type out "Entourage,s02,e01 and all it gives me is Entourage (en)

I choose that and it does nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

See this sticky post in the FAQ forum:

If you still have some shows being unrecognized after that, please report them in this thread:
