View Full Version : Not importing all of my music

I'm looking through my music collection on Boxee and I've come across at least a couple of albums that seem to be missing from my collection. Albums that have been imported successfully into iTunes, Rhythm box and Banshee no problems.
What gives? Why has Boxee picked up the majority of my albums but seemingly skipped some?
For example...
Boxee has successfully imported 4 of my Queens of the Stone Age albums but left one of them out. What is all the more weird is that all of these albums are in the same parent folder so if it imported 4 of the sub folders why not a 5th?
Another example, it is has imported Jethro Tull Aqualung, but not Jethro Tulls Thick as a Brick. What gives?
Is there any reason why it might be skipping these albums because they don't meet the requirements or something, or is this purely a bug?
I'm using Boxee on Xubuntu 8.04.
Thanks.

I am having the same problem. Nine Inch Nails: The Slip & Broken show up but Head Like a Hole is missing although album art is present while browsing through the folder.
Also using Ubuntu.

Could be something with the ID3 tags of those specific albums that prevented their recognition. Please take a look whether those are good, especiall the album title and artist name fields.

will double check. all my flac/id3 tags were created with dbpoweramp and show up fine in winamp, mediamonkey, banshee and songbird.

I updated the ID3 tags for one of the problem albums but Boxee still hasn't picked it up. That said I've had that many problems getting Boxee to find any music at all since the update I dunno if this is conclusive proof that it isnt the ID3 tags.
If there is a way to send you the metadata attached to the problem albums let me know and I'll do it.
Another issue I never mentioned is while Boxee seems to be finding all the complete albums fairly well I have a whole stack of random mp3s (just under 1000) from loads of different bands which Boxee seems to completely ignore. These are all just jumbled in the root directory of my music collection rather than in individual folders per artist like my other stuff is arranged.
I wasn't so bothered about Boxee not finding all these random tracks because things would have gotten a little messy with all that extra junk showing up, but at the same time it is a little worrisome that Boxee has ignored 1000 mp3s just because they arent arranged in neat little folders.

First of all, belovedmonster, I would like to say, after looking at the logs you sent earlier, that I totally dig you musical taste.
Now to the point, if you could please post the name of the album and the artist from one of the unrecognized albums, exactly as they appear in the ID3 tags, and also make sure that they are the same for all tracks in the album, I will recheck to find the source of the problem.
Regarding the assorted MP3s, Boxee only currently recognizes something as an album if it has at least three tracks. This is why you do not see any of the assorted songs in the library. The idea behind this, is just like you said, to prevent library clutter.

Here are a few examples, there may be more. All the data is consistent on all of the albums tracks. (Banshee would show them as two different albums otherwise)
Queens of the Stone Age
Rated R
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin I
Clash
The Clash
Jethro Tull
Thick as a Brick (25th Anniversary Edition)
Ramones
Ramones
The Ramones
End Of The Century (Remastered 2002)
Wild Man Fischer
An Evening With WMF
The Taste Of Chaos Ensemble
Performs Mastodon's Leviathan

I have a problem with Air.
In the finder I have:
The folder Air
with subfolders
Virgin Suicides
Talkie Walkie
Premiers Symptomes
Pocket Symphony
Moon Safari (Special Edition)
Moon Safari
Live
City Reading (Tre Storie Western)
10,000 Hz Legend
They show up correctly in iTunes too.
In Boxee I get Virgin Suicides/Talkie Walkie as one album?

Does boxee use a database like SQLite or SQL?
Is it something we can go into and check for consistency?

Not looking for a response but just to give you something to think about.
Any of these albums pirate copies? If so, I am guessing that something is slightly off on the tags. the Greatest hits, rather than Greatest Hits, or song order is wrong and not in sequence with actual album.

Yes, Boxee uses SQLite3 database which is located in the UserData/Database directory, the file is called, boxee_media.db. You can look into it with any SQLite3 viewer.

@bigfatdummy we rely on the correctness of the tags and do not usually recognize unofficial and bootleg releases...:)

At least half of my music is not recognized, I used Tag&rename to rename all the tags and reimported the music source but things are still missing. I went into the music source view and found an album that was not showing up, i.e. Beethoven eroica. And then asked it to recognize the album, it couldn't find it. So it asks for artist / title so it could find it. It gave me a list. I chose one and it said it "added Album" it played it form the source view, the right cover was there etc. But when i went back to the music library, it still wasn't there.
I went back to the music source and it didn't show it as recognized again.
Any ideas?

Update to the missing album problem. As far as i can tell it seems to be only classical music that I can't get into my library. The scan missed a lot of albums but so far i was able to add a bunch manually, (although i haven't finished) but for all the classical music, the albums show up when i manually look for them in the database, (and some are not in the database at all) but when i click on them, it says "added" but nothing happens. But for non-classical, specifically Beatles or Buena Vista Social Club, you click on the album title, it says "added" and then an information screen about the album comes up. and then it is also in the library.
One thing i did notice though is that in the artist view, those manually added did not have a picture.
Is there a way to add anything manually? And add artist photos?

hi Remulus
thanks again for the report..you can try adding a folder.jpg into the album folder..:)

Besides the missing albums as i mentioned, several has no art. So I played the album, and then chose "wrong album," thinking to re-import it. It found thre album, but like the classical music I mentioned before, i said "album added" but there was no information screen.
After that, it disappeared form the library altogether. Maybe there is a connection to my other issue. Might have something to do with required fields not being filled by the online database. Just a thought. This happened with a couple of albums, Like John Lennon's Acoustic or Mando Diao's Hurricane Bar. I deleted the database and they came back with the new import, again with no album art.
Also, putting a jpg in the folder only works for both artists and music in the sources view, not in the library view.
Hope this helps with the bug
