View Full Version : Boxee display stretched when using mirror display

Ok, gonna have to make this long winded to get all potential issues into the post.

First: when I use my MacBook Pro at a friends house to connect to his TV using a DVI connection, everything looks fine without having to change any settings.

However, at home I do not have a connector that will let me directly connect my mac to my TV so i use a DVI->VGA adapter to connect my laptop to the tv. Whenever I run a movie in this mode boxee acts very strange. It seems to use the TV's resolution (1080p) when going fullscreen on the laptop's display (1440x900) which is then sent to the TV as a mirrored image.

I don't know if what I wrote makes any sense, but basically it feels as if boxee is using the TV's resolution instead of the laptop's resolution when going fullscreen, while keeping boxee mirrored from the laptop.

boxee's options only allow me to pick resolutions usable on the TV while in mirrored mode as well.

I do have a workaround which is to unlink the displays and set the TV as the main display. But I would much rather have them simply mirror because that is the default setting and is a bit easier to set up.

Any suggestions? I cant tell if the difference between the two locations is because I'm using a VGA cable instead of a DVI connection, or simply because my house is 1080p and his is 720p (the smaller resolution allowing mirrored mode to work properly)

Thank you

I'm having similar issues - connect my MBPro via HDMI cable, mirroring, laptop display's everything but TV display doesn't. TV display cut's off screen, as if screen is magnified so that the TV isn't big enough to display the entire image.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm having problems with my MacBook resolution, too. I hooked mine up using a DVI-to-HDMI cable and my HDTV shows the image stretching way off the right side of the screen (when in full-screen mode). I finally was able to get the TV to show just the desktop, complete with dock, in a reduced size (about 3/4s the screen size) and that was tolerable. Anyone know what's causing this?

I'd say it's nothing to do with DVI/VGA, it's purely to do with the 720p/1080p difference. I think it must be choosing the wrong screen to base it's size on. Either reduce your TV to 720p (if you can) or wait till it's fixed! You might be able to work around it by opening boxee before you connect the DVI connector...

I've had trouble and I think I just found the solution. In mirrored mode the max resolution through mini DVI no matter the connection used is the same as the inbuilt screen's actual resolution. In clamshell mode the main screen is turned off and the mini DVI can output any monitor/TV supported resolution.
