Somehow I broke rtorrent. When I go to Downloads I see "Error! Connecting to download server." I'll admit I was fussing with things, trying to get wTorrent to work, but I can't say what I did between Downloads working and not. Any troubleshooting tips?

check that rtorrent runs (ps aux).
basically boxee expects it to listen to xml-rpc requests on port 5000.

Thanks, vulkan. Your intuition was correct, rtorrent is not running, and restarting Boxee does not help.
Here's an interesting wrinkle. I tried running run-rtorrent (in /usr/boxee/3rdparty/rtorrent) on its own and then restart Boxee. When Boxee started, rtorrent crashed with this message: "/rtorrent: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxmlrpc.so.3: undefined symbol: xmlrpc_limit_get".
Any ideas?

ouch.... some dependency for rtorrent is broken.
maybe try reinstalling it - or even apt-get'ing it might fix the depends issue.

Reinstall Boxee or rtorrent? I already tried reinstalling Boxee. Should I try installing stand-alone rtorrent from the Ubuntu repositories?

FYI, updating to the latest Boxee fixed my problem, whatever it was.

great! the latest version does handle running running rtorrent differently.
