View Full Version : Will Boxee Box fit my needs?

From what I've read so far about Boxee Box (and from using Boxee on Win7) it seems to cover most of what I'm looking for (or will once Netflix comes). But I do have a couple of questions regarding local file playback before I buy.

1. I have a number of BD rips in .iso. Will Boxee Box play these or will I need to convert them to .mkv?

2. How does Boxee Box handle different frame rates? My TV can handle a 24fps feed, e.g. from a BD player. Does Boxee Box output the proper refresh rate for 24fps video or does it use 3:2 pulldown or leave it up to the TV?

3. I have a lot of DVD .iso's that don't show up on the standard scraper sites. Is there any way to add coverart and metadata locally that Boxee Box will use?

Thanks in advance. :)

1- Boxee beta will play them if mounted on a Virtual Drive - the Boxee Box will play them but for now, over the network there seems to be some buffering, which I experience on a couple other medai players also, but from a directly connected USB HDD, should be fine -- If you don't mind converting them to MKV's, that would be a very good idea - and start ripping all future content to MKVs also - if possible

2 - The BBox has the setting... "Match screen refresh rate to video"

3 - This was never much of a personal concern - but I believe the BBox will find most of this info, and I believe you can add what's not scraped also - maybe this will help - http://support.boxee.tv/home

1. I mostly don't mind losing the BD menus so while not ideal I guess it would be OK.

2. That's very good news. It's a big drawback on my HTPC at the moment. I need to manually change the refresh rate or suffer with 3:2 pulldown.

3. Unfortunately I have a ton of foreign and niche documentaries that aren't on any of the many scraper sites (IMDB, MOVIEDB, etc.) and I need to add coverart and details manually on my HTPC.

I was hoping to replace my HTPC with something simpler like Boxee Box. It's so close really.
