Can somebody please find a way to install the TorrentUI app from the forum page:

TorrentUI 0.7: What TransmissionUI turned into.

Its really a shame that torrent functionality was ever removed from boxee in the first place, but I guess they had to make their new content partners happy.

Well that might be a shame for them. I live in Canada and so I'm less concerned with the weak local content than I am with the ability to download torrents.

Up until a few days ago I thought a torrent client was included or at least available on Boxee Box. That would make it extremely capable given just an external hard drive.

I bought one anyway to try it out. But now I need a separate PC for torrents, and since I can't share connected storage (?) I have to connect said storage to that PC, and therefore leave that PC running at all times, and introduce wireless streaming lag for all of my stored media.

Not convincing. If a few weeks go by and I don't hear anything about a torrent client, this box is probably going back.

Edit: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=22417 leads me to believe I can access the connected storage, it's just finicky. Something to try tonight.

I would imagine it is difficult to establish content partnerships with Netflix, Vudu, Hulu and others if the box is openly allowing people to download stuff from torrent sites.

Yeah. What he said.

Boxee hasn't directly included an internal torrent client since the first public beta release. The option to add TorrentUI is just that, and not officially supported by Boxee.

Not sure why having a built in torrent client would be that important considering every other device on your network can have one. I mean, it's not that hard to set up a torrent program on your comp to autodownload directly into folders on your external drive connected to the boxee box. Or many NAS drives have built in torrent clients.

For me, built in torrent client would be the last thing on the boxee box list to add. WAY more important things to worry about.

In the end, are you really going to want to use the boxee browser to browse your favorite torrent sites, can't even zoom in to read anything. You'd have the torrent downloaded faster using a comp. Or your smart phone using "remote" functions.

any news here?
i mean, this is not meant to lead into a discussion about wether it makes sense or not. as anyone found anything?

No news. I don't think it's possible for a 3rd party app to implement it (the Box is locked down pretty tight) and Boxee isn't likely to ever ever EVER do it officially.

So, no news. And that's not going to change.

Not happening.... NOT HAPPENING EVER!

They even dropped the Desktop version. The open-sourced goodness is dead:)

Well, the open source goodness is still out there (couple of different sources) but nobody has really picked it up and said they're going to run with it...

I think it's extremely unlikely xtoph even still has his Boxee Box let alone is reading the forums any more ;)

We all know that there are legitimate torrents as well as the more dodgy variety. Not going near torrents because of piracy is misguided IMO, but hey ho, boxee is well locked down. I wish someone would crack it open for root access - I'm sure the device would be more popular.
