Tried an hdmi to dvi cable to my tv tonight(has no hdmi inputs). The boxee box logo shows but then my tv says imput signal lost. Any one know if update 1.0 might fix this issue?

No dice. I'm running 1.0.1.16125 and I get "Invalid Mode" after the initial screen. I'm disappointed because my HD monitor only has 1 HDMI port and I use that for my Tivo. I don't understand why we can't use a DVI port. I've run computers on my DVI ports at 1920x1080@60hz with no trouble. Doing it right now.
FWIW, tho, my Tivo doesn't like being hooked up to the DVI port, either. Must be some handshaking thing with these devices. I used to have my Oppo DVD player hooked up to a DVI port and it worked just fine. This is where I wish the Boxee had component outputs.

I think it's the hdcp copy protection, the the box probably try's to handshake with the tv, and does not get any thing back so turns off the display.
Really hate this drm crap never stops piracy but screws the purchaser of the product.
I'm looking into this product:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HDMI-Component-Video-YPbPr-Audio-Converter-Adapter-/190369105075?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c52e204b3#ht_4717wt_991
Supposed to convert the hdmi signal to component, and also supports hdcp 1.2 it's not cheap but cheaper than buying a new tv.

Your monitor might have hdcp. Allot of them do. Or our tv's might have an old version so it's screws up the handshake (allot of hdcp issues in the early days). I have never gotten my cable box to work with dvi out to my tv. Gives me an hdcp error.

It's been confirmed - this won't work - only HDMI to HDMI

Well that's probably true in my case, but you do see people here getting it to work. I might try an hdmi to dvi adaptor (not cable) with the included boxee box hdmi cable. It might be the hdmi to dvi cable I'm using. Really hate to send this box back

why not buy an HDMI switch. They have some cheap ones on Amazon. I bought one for my tv and have my ps3, and xbox360s running through it. Still working on getting the BB working through it.

Wait, it didn't work through the HDMI switch out of the box? (that darn pun, I can't escape it) yikes. Guess I should be happy that I have enough HDMI ports *for now*

I've had some more time to play with it and my guess is that it is an HDCP issue. The earlier mention jogged my memory and I remember reading back in the before time that only one of the DVI ports on my monitor supports HDCP. Sure enough, I moved the adapter to DVI-2 and I can use it for the Boxee (and my Tivo).
The moral of the story: If your display has multiple DVI inputs, try all of them before giving up.

Same issue with my new BB. The "Loading..." screen comes up and then the TV/Monitor looses the signal. I have tested it with 2 different HDMI-to-DVI cables, connecting to Westinghouse LTV-32w1 (http://legacywd.com/details.aspx?itemnum=15) and Dell monitor E248WFP (http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfo/peripherals/monitor_e248wfp/pd.aspx?refid=monitor_e248wfp&s=dfo) both of which support HDCP.
Any other ideas what to try? Can anyone confirm BB works with HDMI switch to DVI?

I can't confirm the HDMI to DVI switch support - but I use the BBox through an HDMI/HDMI multi port switch with no issue - I got the non-powered switch at meritline.com for around $15
@jtown -- Nice find - this should enable some BBox owners (and wanna' be's) to enjoy the BBox without having to contemplate a new HDMI TV

Just spoke to dlink boxee box support, and the official word is that HDMI to DVI cables/converters are not supported. Only HDMI to HDMI. Bummer. A new TV was not budgeted for...

From what I've gathered (on the forums):
- only HDMI-HDMI cables are supported, officially
- some people are using a DVI-HDMI cable successfully
From my experience so far:
- using a DVI-HDMI cable does the startup screen (grey+"loading") thing, then effectively puts out no video signal as far as the TV is concerned.
So, it looks like, technically there is the possibility of using a DVI-HDMI cable, depending on some unknown factors - maybe software, maybe something to do with the way HDCP works on the specific tv/monitor.
The fact that (when connected with the DVI-HDMI cable) the loading screen shows up perfectly, and once the box has finished loading something seems to happen which kills the video signal flow, suggests that this is a software/firmware issue. If DVI-HDMI cables simply didn't work then there wouldn't be this behaviour, there'd be no loading screen etc?
Disappointing (as I'd assumed using a DVI-HDMI cable would work having used this for DVD players / set top boxes / laptops / apple tv with no probs) - but I think I'll wait for a few weeks to see if any updates change this before returning the box. I can't see myself buying a new TV to work around this..

I'm also getting the "signal lost" but on HDMI to HDMI, I connect and power up the logo appears with the loading message and then after a short while "signal lost". Tried all 4 HDMI ports and also a 2nd TV but all the same outcome/message.

That particular post was moderated as it wasn't about the same issue as what's being talked about in this thread and the poster had already started another thread for their particular issue.
No big deal :)

Did that converter work with the HDMI out on the Boxee? Now that I look at it again though I see it only has analog audio out.

I have an (apparently old) Samsung 50" DLP TV (HLN507W) that works great (five or six years old). For whatever reason, two different HDMI to DVI adapters didn't work.
The wife has a valid point when she asks how the Boxee Box supposed to help us save money on our cable bill when it requires us to buy a new television???
Has anyone had success with this adapter?
Thanks,
Russell

Russell - any luck with that HDMI to component converter from ebay?
I also found this device at hdtvsupply.com, but its $150 and i really have no interested in spending close to $500 on my entire Boxee setup.

They do claim to work specifically with Boxee, which is encouraging.

HDFury should absolutely work with any HDMI-HDCP source outputting to any component device:
http://www.hdfury.com/
If you want a low-cost, but decent HDMI switch, check Monoprice:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=hdmi+switch&x=0&y=0
Buying cables and these types of switches elsewhere is usually just throwing money away. :)

So, after hearing people about hdmi switches making boxee work on dvi port, I bought a nice €150,- monster cable hdmi switch. Connected the boxee box and... nothing again!
I do get some scrambled signal when I adjust settings on my plasma and put the dvi port in "STB mode", where dvi port in "PC mode" gives me no signal (plasma goes standby). During startup I do get the "famous" grey logo... Tried on a computer monitor with DVI, same results. So I'm a little worried the HDMI switches proposed here will give me the same result. Tried with a adapter as well, same results as the HDMI switch. (my Humax DVR decoder / TVIX work through the adapter on the DVI port).
Question, is there a difference between HDMI switches, so do I might be lucky trying some switches? Other question, what results can I exect from conversion to component, as I have on free component input. And how to realize for a decent price... (since I can get a new Full HD panasonic plasma for about 700,- this might be the better option to overcome this barrier).
Currently I'm looking at a Hitachi 32PD5200 plasma, via a Humax 5050C decoder and TVIX 6500 mediaplayer.

I'd wouldn't buy a Plasma and I can't comment on worth because that's very subjective. The HDFury links I posted will definitely work for component inputs.
The issue sounds like it's definitely HDCP related and it's a shame. Because the Box has a ton of content that does not have any HDCP flags, including al personal content one is likely to have.
I would strongly suggest submitting this as a bug or feature request. Missing HDCP should prevent HDCP-flagged material from playing, but should not prevent the Box from booting and showing non-HDCP material, such as local content, YouTube, etc.
