I searched through the user guide for a detailed step by step process on this but couldn't find anything. Before you continue reading, if you happen to know a source that can easily help me connect my boxee box to my MacBook Pro, please help me.

I'm wanting my BB to notice my MacBook Pro so it can stream through my music library. How would I go about adding it to my sources?

I really appreciate the guidance!

Seems BB kinda sucks for playing music .. not many options at all. Here's what I did but often it will just say "Disconnected" when i go to my sources and I have to powercycle it to come back on... really annoying.

1. Apple Menu / System Preferences / Sharing
2. Check File Sharing
3. Click on Options
4. Check Windows Sharing SMB bla bla and check your username (make sure you have a password set to your username)
5. Remember the Computer Name that's on top or change it to something simple that you will remember
6. Add the Desired folders to share (usually your username/Music if you keep the music there)
7. Make sure "Everyone" has at least read only

8. On the BB go to settings and in the sharing sources (file folders or whatever it's called)
9. Click on Manual / IP
10. Enter your Computer Name, User, Pass
11. If that does not work put your MBP's IP instead of Computer Name
12. If you do go past this step, you will see your shared folders. Go in the Music folder and add the source then check off Music

It should start refreshing and depending on how much music there is it might take a while.

I do not know how to solve the "disconnect" issue that sometimes happens... only rebooting the box fixes it for me

any advice on how to enable it as a NAS?

I haven't tested it so I'm not sure.

On BB:
Settings / Network / Servers and check Enable Window File Sharing, set a password. Username is Guest. Not sure what access rights you have on it though.. if it's read only or full access

any advice on how to enable it as a NAS?

I have it working with a Synology NAS. So far I have to use the manual approach and map it by name, userid & password. I have yet to get it working if I browse too it via network shares. Probably something to do with the NAS not allowing some kind of "everyone" access.

I actually find myself having to use Apple TV with the Boxee in order to get the functionality I need. Neither is complete. If someone hacks the Apple TV to let it play media from network shares I'll have a Boxee for sale.

We're probably hijaking the Mac thread (it just so happens I have a Mac too) I just got my synology NAS working. I went into the Control Panel of the NAS, Win/Mac/NFS and on the Windows File Service tab I enabled Local Master Browser. This enables the guest account - just be sure it has a password set and/or doesn't have access to any of your shares.

Now I'm prompted for a userid & password when I browse to a share I have set up.

To make it easy to use with the odd keyboard on the remote, I set up a user with read access with a very short username and password - just enough to keep family out, me in.

Only problem now is once I'm logged in it seems I have to shut boxee down and restart in order to get the password prompt again. Its caching it and there is no logout option that I can see.

This happens to me all the time and it is extremely frustrating. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Happens to me, too...smb folders connect fine, scan,etc...then, after not watching for some period, decide to disconnect----PLEASE FIX THIS!!!!!!
