I got my box yesterday. setup was easy. wired to my network, as is my WHS(HP). My primary use is for playback of ripped copies of my movies (local), so yes, I am pretty dissappointed with the new UI. Even if I wasnt using local media primarily, I still think the old UI was more intuitive, but I can see how they thought this would be "simplified".

My issue right now is although all my files are playing video fine, mt reciever (denon 890), for some reason is recieving only a stereo signal. Even though the rips (mkv, mp4, iso, etc) many times have 5.1,or DTS HD,

IN settings>audiom i have digital (HDMI) selected. If i check all the boxes below, then when i go to play the video, I get an error msg about audio failed to play, check device

any thoughts?
thanks. and hopefully the boxee team fix a llot of the issues we're having soon. the sad thing is, even though it's not the best, i honestly dont think there's any device out there that will still do what it does as well as it does. it's just the price; for 200, i can get a roku that will handle my online stuff (netflix) much better AND maybe a WDTV or ASUS. ohwell...

I'm sorry you are having trouble. Right now, I have a denom 1910 (which is analogous to the 790, one model under yours, which is analogous to the 2310), and it has played everything fine on my end. I've done the same exact thing, set the sound to HDMI and made sure to check all of the file formats the receiver is capable of, which I think is all of them. I've played everything from DD5.1, to DTS-MA.... everything works. Did you try different files?

yeah, it plays every file just fine, as long as i have all the boxes unchecked, which is weird, cos Im pretty sure the reciever supports/decodes all those formats. so i basilcally just leave it unchecked, and the recievers shows 2 channels coming in, then it creates a 6 channel track
Im sure it has something to do with the settings i used when ripping the movies (i used DVDFab), cos some of my older backup dvds and home videos play just fine with their original soundtrack, regardless of what i have checked. im just not sure what the settings it could possibly be.
when boxee is playing the movie (mkv/mp4) i check the audio track and it says for e.g DTS5.1, but the receiver is only showing 2 channels coming in??
i dont know.
i noticed a little stuttering, buffering today, but otherwise, playback has been good
