Hi All

I have pre-ordered the Boxee Box but after reading the new online guide:LINK (http://boxee.zendesk.com/entries/321281-boxee-box-user-guide)

I am having second thoughts...
There are not much online content in Europe so the Boxee Box was intended to play local files stored on a NAS.

I have 4TB of TV content, and all of the shows are named to support the MediaBrowser and XBMC reads the NFO file (Local shows dont have IMDB or other www pages to look-up the information! so you need local information)

According to the guide it have to look like this:
Show.Title.S##E##.info.extension - No spaces supported?

MetaBrowser and MediaMaster have named all my files like this:

Show - s01e01 - info.avi

Please tell me that Boxee Box can read this format! :confused:

Can anyone tell me if local NFO and Folder.jpg/Folder.png is going to be supported? Many local country TV shows dont have a poster on IMDB so local artwork is needed! and also looks much better !!! :D:D.

I know this is a high priority for many and some even say that the Boxee Box team are looking into making this possible...can anyone here confirm this?
I love the look and feel of the Boxee Box but since I don't have much online content the main usage would be to play local files!

Best regards
Casperse

Boxee should pick that up no problem, as well as many other formatting options. I've also seen it work with "Show - 1x01" and "Show - 101". Worst-case scenario is that you do the first one yourself, and then click the checkbox that tells Boxee to apply the settings to the other files in that folder.

If you're in doubt, just download the software off of the site, install it on your computer and add your media folder. If it picks it up, you're good to go.

Show.Title.S##E##.info.extension - No spaces supported?

According to the D-Link FAQ (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DSM-380&tab=3) the formatting of filenames shoud be...

TV Shows

TV Shows´ file names usually consist of the shows name, the season (usually indicated by the letter "S", or just the number), the episode (usually indicated by the letter "E", or just the number), the episode´s title, and some more info regarding the quality and source of the file. Boxee currently supports the following types of naming conventions for TV shows.

Show.Title.S##E##.info.extension (double digits are required: S#E# will not work.)

Examples:

* The.Sopranos.S02E01.avi
* Entourage.S05E01.avi

Show.Title.#x##.info.extension

Examples:

* How.I.Met.Your.Mother.1x01.Pilot.avi
* The.Office.02×02.stuff.avi

Note: Adding the series´ release year in the file will help resolve remakes and TV shows with similar names (please refer to IMDB.com to find the correct release year of the show)

Movies

Boxee currently supports the following naming convention for movies:

Title.extension

Examples:

* Die.Hard.avi
* Toy.Story.2.avi

Note It is recommended that you add the movie´s release year for greater accuracy, especially when dealing with remakes. Title.(YEAR).extension

Examples:

* The.Day.the.Earth.Stood.Still.(1951).avi
* The.Day.the.Earth.Stood.Still.(2008).avi

For multi-part movie both part# and cd# are supported. Title.part#.extension

Examples:

* Seven.Pounds.cd1.avi
* Seven.Pounds.cd2.avi
* The.Simpsons.Movie.part1.avi
* The.Simpsons.Movie.part2.avi

Isn't this kind of limiting? Moving forward I like having everything formatted in a tidy manner, but I also have archives of shows that don't follow this format. Can there be an option to just view files as a list of filenames? I certainly don't want to go back and rename all of those files. I know some other people that have been disappointed that Boxee can't just read a list of files and play them without special naming conventions.

I've got almost all of my shows named to the "show - s01e01 - episode name" format as well as the "show s01e01 episode name" format, and Boxee has always indexed them just fine.

And yes, Boxee can also just view your files as a list of filenames. Using a supported naming convention is only for using the metadata to retrieve extra information like episode/movie descriptions and cover art and for displaying them in a tiled format in the "Movies" and "TV" menus.

To view them in their raw state, you just go the the "Files" browser within Boxee and browse them just like you would in an OS like Windows.

Oh, and I believe (from what I've read) that they're planning folder.jpg support sometime in the forseeable future, as well.

Oh, and I believe (from what I've read) that they're planning folder.jpg support sometime in the forseeable future, as well.

They will need more then just folder.jpg support. That's only for cover art for folders.
They will also need to support cover art for video such as moves all in the same folder.

Examples:
Above The Law (1988).avi
Above The Law (1988).jpg
Assault On Precinct 13 (2005).mkv
Assault On Precinct 13 (2005).jpg

Them 2 movies in the same folder would use the cover art when named the same as each movie.

I also have the WD Live TV and it does this well. Boxee needs to add this as well.
