This issue plagues many media boxes / linux boxes trying to connect to Windows 7 shares. It doesn't like the username/password even though you KNOW the sharing is set up correctly in Windows 7.

This is actually a Samba bug:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7577

This likely needs to be fixed directly in boxee software by the boxee team.

In the meantime, the workaround is to uninstall "Windows Live Sign in Assistant" from Programs in W7. If you're using the newer "Windows Live Essentials 2011", you need to remove the WHOLE THING. Yeah, messenger and all, and download and install an older version without the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant.

Until the boxee team incorporates a new non-buggy version of Samba.

Two questions:
1. Do I need "Windows Live" at all?
2. If I do, any idea where to find an older version to install?

Thanks

Are you installing via an OEM disk? My retail disk of 7 x64 pro installs no live software.

I looked into it, and as didatofik points out, every piece of it can be replaced with something better -- if needed.

My media source doesn't need email, messaging, etc., so I simply removed it.

An interesting update to this. I removed live assistant (xp - sp3) and i just ran into the problem where it forgot my user/pass. so this work around did not work for xp. however, i have another share that's on a usb drive attached to my wireless router. This is using SMB as well, i accessed that share no problem. When i then immediately went back to my windows share they worked fine.
