I'm a big fan of the Boxee team, they do a fantastic job interacting with the Boxee community and they deserve my money for getting this awesome product to market. Here's my list of what I'd like to see happen in the newer releases of the firmware for Boxee Box:

1) The UI - the new design is slick. The bigger buttons and featured items are easier to interact with than in the previous version. However... it doesn't make sense to throw me into the "Most Popular" Shows/Movies/Apps when I have spent a long time curating my list of favorites. Why don't the big beautiful icons on the home screen send me to my favorites? I know that it makes sense to send new users to the most popular section, but once people have found content, it would be very convenient to have a setting that changes the default location to Favorites from Most Popular.

2) The new menu is extremely confusing, like Sony's Google TV remote. It could probably be done away with completely and replaced with the Home screen with a few extra icons. Once you drill down to Shows, Movies or Apps, put some category drop-downs or buttons on the screen so that you can navigate through most popular, recently added, etc.

3) The auto-fullscreen worked much better using the older browser - I'm having to use the browser much too often to get shows into full screen mode. I'm sure this is already being worked on...

4) Type to search is great for me; I'm a Web OS fan. If Bing results (or whoever the search provider is) could be piped into the Boxee interface without having to visit the actual web page, that would be amazing - using the cursor really does suck... maybe a snap to links mode in the browser would be good.

5) There needs to be an auto-play feature that churns through the "Watch Later" queue. It would also be great to add to the Watch Later queue from a mobile device, via emailing a link, or something similar...

6) It would be nice to have the ability to refresh the social feed manually. It would also be nice to be able to do a Retweet or Facebook Like from Boxee when a video has been viewed from the social feed.

7) The remote should have the Boxee logo on top - I keep juggling the remote in my hand and holding it upside down because I don't want to cover what looks like a big white button with my palm. It would be cool if that white logo also doubled as a power button for the box and glowed green.

8) It would be great to have video playback continue while navigating within Boxee - this is something I miss from 0.92 on my macbook pro.

9) Where is Justin.TV?

That's all for now... I don't regret my purchase at all, but I do expect a good amount of development to be put into refining the Boxee experience so that it at least comes up to par with the 0.92 release. Thanks Boxee team!

There is so much coolness here. I'm mostly happy with my Box as well. But I'm missing:

NETFLIX

Also, the remote could use some work. RF is awesome. It's a brilliant concept, and maybe cost took some of these ideas out, but I'd like to see:

white text on keyboard - gray on black isn't very readable
light up keys - when the first keyboard key is pressed, the keyboard would light up and become active
slightly bigger keyboard buttons - I'm ok with the remote being a 1/2" bigger
some kind of indentation on the side so I know which ways up in a dark room. the logo makes sense and now that I know it's suppose to be in my palm I got it covered, it just could have been easier.
separate power button on the face of the remote - quick click to sleep, hold down to shut down
ability to purchase a new remote separately so I can upgrade :)

Otherwise, I think Boxee has something great with the Box. It's extensible - which makes this crazy-fast-internet-video world approachable with the ability to quickly change the software.

I believe you can buy the remote on Amazon on its own.

Bought the Boxee box and Apple TV last week. Wow what a difference!! Honestly the Boxee box seems extremely rushed. I am a hardcore boxee user, been a member for a while now, I got all the repo's added, configured and pimped out my NAS to death, so I ain't a newbie, now here are some major issues so far;

1. TV-Shows: why when I load a tv-show from tv-shows library (not local files) am I being sent to the web browser, and why am i having to use the stupid scolling feature to make the vid full screen?? super wack!! seems very slow, to load vid, then wait for ad, then scroll down a bit, then click on full screen. this was never an issue with the software app for windows.

2. UI: what the hell happened to my Queue? feed? why are my twitter and facebook vids under "friends", this ui is blowing hot air right now.

3. the icons and interface are not sharp whatsoever. doesnt look clean. if you compare the picture quality in the main ui screen between Apple TV and Boxee, there is no comparison, Apple TV wins.

4.WTF happened to Justin.TV???? why did I have to add a repository in order to get Justin.TV??? why does Justin.TV channel screen now load the webpage and not the actually stream?? hella wack!!!

5.Netflix??? when?? like come on now?

6.where is the trued 1080P 5.1 digital beautiful content?? none of the tv shows are hd, none of the movies are hd? a web page, loading a web vid is not hd. i can only subscribe to hd podcasts... AHHHH!!!!! WTF!!

anyway, Im still loyal, and i know there will be a lot more updates to boxee box firmware, but still, get your shit together, i spent $199 plus taxes. and im very fucking dissapointed so far. my jailbroken apple tv 2g is performing alot better... so far.

i feel very very very let down. i waited for this unit for so long, and look what happened... didn't live up to the hype.

:D

2. UI: what the hell happened to my Queue? feed? why are my twitter and facebook vids under "friends", this ui is blowing hot air right now.

The queue is now "watch later" -- available on the Home Screen (use the menu button until the MainMenu shows up, then navigate to and select "Home").

Videos from your twitter and facebook friends showed up under Friends in the beta too -- this has also been moved (from the far right column) to "Friends" on the Home Screen.

5.Netflix??? when?? Before the end of the year.

6.where is the trued 1080P 5.1 digital beautiful content?? none of the tv shows are hd, none of the movies are hd?You mean like Earth-Touch? Vudu will be offering HD/5.1 once it's released on the Boxee Box, 720p from Hulu+ once it's released as well. But as far as I know, NO network TV broadcasts anything in 1080p, not even over cable. If you're looking 1080p I believe you need to rip your own content from BluRay.

(BTW, just because the content sits on a web page doesn't meant it's not HD -- check out all the YouTube 1080p videos... on their website :p )
