An app i use has prompted me for the boxee box root password. On the ATV I would use the default "frontrow." What is it here?

I don't that app is going to be compatible with the Boxee Box...

Making the Boxee Box even more of a silly plastic vanity purchase.
Hey longtime fans: now your Apps don't work!

I said THAT app. Sheesh.
Beside which, it is the developer's responsibility to update Apps to be compatible on new platforms. Perhaps contacting the developer would be a more productive route to take.

Crikey. Which app does that?

I understand what you meant.
My reply was a more general frustration - my Boxee Box experience has been very underwhelming - and I've been a longtime supporter.
But if the app one uses most doesn't work... you have to admit, developer issue or not, it's similar types of issues that have led to Linux never fulfilling its mainstream desktop dreams.
End users, for better or worse, often don't care.
Now I've hacked my Apple TV to death, setup boxee on it more times than I can count. Setup custom scripts, etc. etc. I certainly didn't expect all of it to work on the boxee box, not even most (or any).
And I'll probably wait it out. But when it comes to the living room there's a huge gap between us and the consumer who wants to plug something in and work - especially when Boxee's original call to arms was "freedom."
The Box seems to have changed that ethos to "more freedom than the rest, but less than before."
My two cents - none of it meant to attack or insult you personally; your response is greatly appreciated no matter the answer.

I don't even want to know ;)

A networking-related app (the Overplay.net app).
I modified it for my own custom network setup (not using Overplay's infrastructure) on my ATV. I knew I wouldn't be able to modify it on the Box without SSH access but I did want to try it with Overplay's network.
It was the only app I used actually.

Is overplay for VPN? If so, I believe the Boxee Box has VPN built-in -- but not alot of options for it yet...

Yes. It was for VPN... PPTP isn't ideal (whereas OpenVPN or IPSec is.)
I will admit that I didn't know the Box had PPTP VPN. I'm glad it does.
While we don't have another endpoint that's PPTP. But it's a start... and it's the first thing about Boxee Box I'm glad to see. Here's to hoping that OpenVPN is added at some point.
As well as SSH access. :)

Found a PPTP VPN Endpoint to test with and Boxee Box's VPN isn't working. Laptops running Windows and OS X all connect fine. The Boxee Box can connect but can't send any traffic through it.
Again though, it's there and that's a start.

Just checked, it's a known issue so hopefully it'll be addressed soon.
