View Full Version : Finding my BB's MAC address

I use an access control list (ACL) at home on my wireless network. Is there a way to find the out what my BB's MAC address is? I've looked through both the local and online documentation with no luck.

doesn't your router show you a list of all the connected devices and their mac addresses?

Absolutely. It's in Settings>System>Information.

I wanted to point out that MAC on the sticker on the bottom of my Boxee Box did not match with the actual MAC it was using.
I noticed it when I checked the logs on my router.
Once I changed my filter to allow the real MAC then things started working.

I had the same issue while setting up my box last night - it was a chicken and egg scenario. Without connecting to a network I couldn't get past the network setup screen, but I needed to get past to go to options and find the MAC address to allow it to connect.
The MAC address on sticker on the bottom of the box wasn't helpful as it is for the wired ethernet port. And unfortunately I don't have any decent logging on my router.
In the end I disabled MAC address filtering on my router for the first time ever, got the Boxee Box on the network and found the wireless MAC address in options. I entered that into my MAC address table and re-enabled filtering. I let my guard down for a bit, but I'm sure it will be worth it!

As an aside, MAC filtering really isn't really a helpful security precaution...
and more if you google for: security mac filtering
