In system preferences, click Sharing and check File Sharing. Add the folders you want to share, click options and select SMB sharing and then select your username. I think the username MUST have a password in order to properly work. Also make sure "Everyone" in each share has at least Read-Only permission. On the Boxee box in settings / local content or wherever it is you add folders, select manual and enter the computer's IP address, and the user/password that you checked under the SMB section.
