I will say, after seeing the pictures of the future Boxee remote last night with the big red Netflix button all I can say is "YUGH!". I'd love to hear other opinions on this? Maybe no one even cares? :p

I can't say for sure if it would or wouldn't prevent me from purchasing a standalone Boxee remote for use with my HTPC, but what I can certainly say is, "That button looks fugly!" Much of my interest in the remote was from the information I had read and the images I saw of it on the Boxee site. While the remote is nowhere near a necessity for me, I did find it very cool looking and a really awesome looking design. As for an analogy, I'd akin the addition of the Netflix button on the remote to a beautiful woman tattooing a beer logo on her chest. Yes I very much love both beautiful women and beer, but I don't want the stinking logo right there in my face every time I look at her. I mean c'mon. I don't go and buy a TV and come to find a FOX button on the remote. I thought the design of the Boxee Box and the remote were intended to be beautiful and intriguing? What's with the branding? Netflix is cool and all, but nowhere near the best reason to use Boxee or own a Boxee Box. Why not some user configurable favorite button that matches the rest of the remote and looks nice? Then everyone who loves Netflix can make that their Netflix button, and everyone that loves Hulu Plus can make that their Hulu Plus button, ect...

Oh well, I am simply ranting and Boxee and the Boxee Box is still the coolest thing since sliced bread, I just found this addition rather strange.

8:35PM "Netflix is coming! It won't be available tomorrow, but it's coming by the end of the year. It won't be the same interface, but it'll be high definition. Many people waited on preorders because of Netflix -- there's gonna be Netflix and it's gonna be great." New version of the remote with a dedicated Netflix button! "This is serious!"

There is definitely not a big red Netflix button on the remote. That was just a picture on a slide in the presentation.

Although it would be pretty hilarious to have a Netflix button for a device that doesn't yet include Netflix support...

Engadget along with other sites seem to disagree. I as well didn't believe it at first. But from what I am reading it's true. I wish I could find last nights stream online somewhere. Unfortunately I was in class the entire time and have only the blogs to go on. I realize the button is not on the remote yet, especially considering Netflix isn't even a go yet and how Boxee Box units were already arriving at homes as early as yesterday. But we still don't have any concrete information on when the remote will be available separately for HTPC users. Presumably if this button does make it's way on to the remote, it will be there when the standalone remote is available.

not only is Netflix coming to the Boxee Box, we've confirmed it will be front and center on future remote controls. Hit up our full Boxee liveblog to find out what else we learned!

Is this not just a joke? I.e. "look how serious we are about netflix support, we even photoshopped a netflix button onto our remote"..

I mean the play/pause button is probably important (I wouldn't know, my box has crashed on every single video I have tried to play).

This is just sad. Like the ministers/politicians trying to outlaw homosexuality "I think thou dost protest too much". Boxee is really trying to hammer home Netflix support with fake photoshop buttons on "promised" remotes. Yet there is no Netflix support. Seems...like...trying...too....hard...:p
