Boxee box outside US

Hi,

I've been following the boxee box information with anticipation for a long time now, there's such a need for a great media box to accompany the tv and the boxee box seems to be able to handle it all!

One big concern I got atm though is that the only thing I see people talk about are Netflix, Hulu and all other sort of online services which we currently do not have in for e.g. Sweden. I'm not interested in Pandora, Last.fm or any other non-sweden usable services, but it seems these things are currently being pushed up in the last UI and is basically the main focus.

As we do not have any of these great services in Sweden, all I want the boxee box to do is to display and play my local content of movies and tv-shows, that's all I want. Do we know yet if I can remove everything concerning apps/services that I cannot use in Sweden from the UI? When I click movies I just want to see my local content, nothing else - will it be possible? I would hate to have to see the rental-services only available in the US logo all over my experience.

I know I should just wait until someone outside US has tested it (and the new UI), but I'm so excited the box is finally here I'm checking if someone knows how it works :)

well same here in canada, right now 2 things is annoying me, when i tell boxee to show "My TV shows" it still shows all the streamming ones, and it scapes both my tv shows folder and my movies folder in my "movies" menu.. but since i'm still on the 0.91 on my boxee box, I'll wait till later today after 1.0 comes out, but so far very disappointing..

in with you here, please let me know how the 1.0 version displays local movies, tv-shows etc. if we're back to browsing through a list of files for local content, im gonna cancel my pre-order....

I'm also in the same boat. At the moment I'm considering getting either an Apple TV or a Boxee Box. The problem for us outside of the US is where we get our content from. For me in the UK, iTunes is by far the easiest place for me to get content from and of course it doesn't play on Boxee. It's much easier for me to get movies from my Virgin Media (my cable company) over the TV.

If Boxee really want to sell the Boxee Box to us non-US customers, a little guidance or news on where we'd get our content from would be nice. Solid details on a LoveFilm app perhaps? A movie store that works outside the US? Basically anything that let's me know I'm not going to be waiting forever. Otherwise I'll be doing what I'm sure lots of other people will be doing instead - getting an Apple TV as at least I can watch some decent movies on that.

Ok, so now the v1.0 of the UI is out, and is it possible to click "movies" and "tv-shows" and just get the local content without the streaming services being shown at all unless I click that I want to?

Ha, nope. I hate to admit it, but boxee has turn to please the general public that doesn't know shit about downloaded content, so it has focus more on online content. I think i'm going back to the old version on a dell zino

There's currently no way to exclude online content completely. You CAN configure boxee to exclude content that's not available in your area, but by default it shows available online content first.

That said, you're not restricted to going into the file browser if you only want to see your local media. You go to Shows > Files or Movies > Files and it lists it with thumbnails and details and everything, just like normal. But it is one or two extra clicks.

Too bad, things like that totally buggs me out. Glad it's still possible to show my local content however, even though with this setup it'll feel like a secondary citizen on the media hub.
