View Full Version : Search for Applications in Boxee Box

So, how does one search for applications? Or is the user expected to peruse through 150+ apps, one row at a time.
I noticed that pressing a letter key on the remote does not act as a short cut to an app beginning with that letter and instead seems to bring up a web search dialog?

Can you highlight apps in the quick menu and then up to the search box and type? (not in front of the bbox now ;))

I'll try that tonight. But I can tell you I was IN the apps section and the search didn't seem to be for apps. But I'll double-check :)

what app are you searching for?
just a quick test here, i popped the search bar and punched in revision, then was able to select revision3 and launch the rev3 app. not sure if it's because it's pulling it from my recently used, or if it is indexing all of the available apps.

Here's a similar example.
I navigate to Files / Music / By Artist
I use the remote to enter: Hybrid
The dropdown/list displays:
awd hybrid
gmc yukon hybrid 2008
hybrid
hybrid ice
hybridization
hybrid macaws
search web for "hybrid"
I select the third item "hybrid" thinking that will display all songs / albums or something local by music artist Hybrid
Instead I get a screen with two tabs:
All (15) Clips(15)
All (15) is already selected and the first item:
> Porsche's First Hybrid
is selected by default followed by four other items, each one having a small circle with a "play" triangle in it.
As I navigate to each item, a video thumbnail shows up on the right.
Screenshot of the All/Clips screen is attached.
Similarly, I went to Apps / Favorites, removed Revision3 and then searched for it. It shows up but it's not actually IN my Favorites any more...
So the search is not context-sensitive in any way. It's just returning everything it can find, regardless of where the user is in the app. Except music apparently ;)

Aaah, IC. I'll have to try it out today.
You know, there are things I just never use in Boxee. It amazes me some of the options I've not considered even to this day.....
BTW---pics are not allowed in this thread until 11/10/10. ;)

to summarize the feedback -
if you are on the home screen you expect search to search everything
if you are in a specific category (music, movies, apps, etc) you expect search to search everything, but favor results in the category you are in.
does that capture your thoughts accurately?

I love a guy who can be concise :)
Yes that covers it very nicely indeed!

Agreed as well.
