I remember reading somewhere that the boxee remote would be available to purchase independently of the box. Is this still going to happen? When/Where will it be available? And does anyone know a price?

I saw Avner state on a video a few months ago that the remote should be released ahead of the BBox - but nothings been said about it lately - most likely it's been over-shadowed by the BBox release announcement
This would be a good question to pose on the Boxee Blog -- and if you get any details, please share them here on the forum :)

Yeah, I've been waiting for the remote to come out for months. But I can't find any information about it anywhere. It's like they've completely forgotten about their promise to also sell it separately.

Avner mentioned that we should get the remote even before the boxee box! That gives us 7 days to get it!:)
Boxee has been build on everything but the boxee box so I hope that they won't start forgetting about us when the box will be out.

I agree with you. If the remote were really being sold separate Amazon would have something on it, especially if it were launching before the box. I'm starting to think the remote is going to be a perk only offered to box owners.

I am purchasing a Boxee Box and don't want to use their remote. I understand that their remote uses RF signals. Does anyone know if my universal remote that uses IR signals will work with the Boxee Box?
If I can get my universal remote to work, I'd be willing to sell my Boxee Box remote.

If you can get your universal remote to work, I'd be willing to buy your Boxee Box remote. :)

Just to be fair, I'll probably list it on eBay and then post the link here so you guys can bid on it if you'd like.
I was cheap and went with the free shipping option from Amazon. So, my Boxee Box may not even get here until the week of Thanksgiving.

I also really want a Boxee Remote. All the HTPC mini keyboard options out there really kinda suck. Please sell them separately.
I was thinking, what if I bought a Boxee Box for a friend or family. Then I called up D-link for tech support saying the remote didn't work. Think I could finagle a way to get a replacement remote?

IR and RF work entirely differently. I wouldn't count on it. Your going to either need a new universal remote that supports IR and RF (a know a few Harmony models support RF, but nowhere near all of them), or your going to need some device that is capable of relaying signals from a IR remote to an RF source (I don't know if there is any product out there like this). There is of course the possibility of Boxee adding some support for a USB IR receiver (I wouldn't count on this) or, and while more likely but at best only an idea at this point, someone begins hacking and modifying the software of the Boxee Box add then adds support for some readily available IR receiver on the market (again, I am just thinking out loud here).

From the 'confirmed bbox features sticky in the announcements thread - "The RF Boxee remote and an IR/USB/MCE2 compatible remote will be supported"
I can't confirm this from experience - but the info is from a Boxee Dev
