i've got all my movies in itunes, and they all have covertart embedded in the files (as well as all the movie info).
when i set up the source in boxee to read the content from that folder, boxee is ignoring the covertart and meta data etc and using covertart etc from elsewhere.
how do i get boxee to use the metadata that already is embedded in the files ?

Boxee does not use the metadata stored in the file or in the directory where the movie is, but rather takes the movie name and gets the info from the internet about the movie(from IMDB). It does not do anything with the file or any other metadata you may have in the directory with the movie. Boxee builds its own database.
There are ways you can modify the SQLite database Boxee uses to store the information it will use in Boxee. Below are 3 threads on how others are doing this... there may be more(I know there is a SQLite Firefox plugin).

Ok well that strikes boxee of my list then.
The info it pulls from imdb is rubbish in my opinion.

:(I know this thread is old but so is boxee box not addressing this issue.
The same issue is true for mp3 files as the tags read fine in media player or winamp but the boxee box messes the album art up and does not read the tags correctly.
This and the fact that the boxee box player does not have an equalizer, makes the boxee box player about useless.
Why don't they just code media player into this thing.
It's the only gripe i really have with the box other than it does not allow for a samba server use.

The music stuff is a mess, I agree. Has been and will continue to be for a while, I'm afraed :(
But what issues are you having with samba? It should just work and does for 99.9% of the folks.

OK I figured out how to keep the meta data in the mp3 files is by deleting the media information in settings and then setting the source folder containing the mp3 file to: never scan.....now the box only displays the tag within the file... :^)
