Heya,
Did anyone try to run boxee on an eeepc ?
I just installed it on my 700, overclocked and upgraded to 1gb ram running eeexubuntu gutsy.
It installed fine and started but its very slow, I have to wait a couple of seconds between each key press.
I will fiddle around with it a bit and see if I can get it to run decently.
Anyone else has any experience concerning this ?

Alright, after researching a bit disabling vsync helped alot.
this is an issue with intel gfx.
edit the file ~/.boxee/UserData/guisettings.xml
find the key "vsync" and change its value to 0
let me know if it helps

Ok I messed around a bit with it and navigation appears to be decent and quite useable. However I wasn't able to use any upnp sources streamed from twonky yet.
I will go and try to mount the ssh drives via shfs first and then use them in boxee.

yep :) i was able to run it as well turning vsync to 0. navigation is usable (not spectacular, but usable). i played a few net streams, including 480p trailer at ~1mbit and it worked well (exceeded my expectations).
i'll try smb next.

the thing is that I would like to keep all my streaming business down to upnp however neither xbmc nor boxee seem to be very good for that matter :(

both xbmc and boxee support upnp (in boxee its not in the ui yet), but under xbmc should work fine. what is the problem you're experiancing?

Eee PC 1000 running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy
custom kernel from array.org/ubuntu
2 GB RAM
Intel Atom
My installation appeared to run without a problem, but the application fails to work at all. I've removed it and reinstalled it once. The first time I installed it with:
sudo apt-get install boxee
The second time I did it via synaptic.
When I click the icon in the application menu the "hour glass" spins and the app just doesn't open. Once I saw what must be the initial screen, but the mouse didn't function properly and I had to restart gnome (via CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE) to get out of the app.
I'm not sure where to being, any ideas??

"custom kernel from array.org/ubuntu"
This concerns me, what's that all about?

Ubuntu doesn't support Eee PC hardware by default. In order to get Ubuntu to function properly a custom kernel was assembled which includes the necessary drivers and fixes. Read about it here (http://array.org/ubuntu/about.html).
I should point out that I've been running this configuration for a few months and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Also, I've loaded additional applications with no problems, for example Google Desktop, True Crypt, Code::Blocks, Banshee, Pidgin, Skype, XChat, Thunderbird, etc.

I run Boxee on an Eee PC 901 with Ubuntu 8.10 + the array.org kernel.
The UI works fine (even before I turned vsync off) nowhere as fluid as on my MacBook Pro but not laggy or anything.
The problem is that it hangs the OS when I stop playing video. This happens every time and I am not sure why. It could be a conflict with Compiz, but I am not sure.
Is there anything I could provide ot help debug this? My install is pretty standard for an Eee PC.

Are you offering to help debug my problem or asking for help debugging yours?
Either way, do you have any advice for my situation? I set vsync to 0, but otherwise it's a completely base install so I have no idea how to fix it.
I'm trying to get a media center PC together here. Something to play my LAN share files (MP3s, videos, pictures,) and stream web video. I really want this to work with my Eee - I'm even willing to wait a year (http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=3385&highlight=netflix+linux) for Netflix to start working on Linux - but I'm having trouble even getting boxee off the ground.

Thanks

The only config type changes I've made were to xorg.conf and adding the correct mode for my TV using xrandr.
xorg changes:
* setting up Virtual 2048 2048 Display under Screen
* uncomment InputDevice for mouse and touchpad
* add Option "FramebufferCompression" "off" to Device in order to fix a problem where the VGA would go blank after a few minutes of any full-screen application
* added "ServerFlags" Option "AutoAddDevices" "off" as part of touchpad fix

I plan to most likely throw Gentoo (my quad core desktop can distcc the builds) on there, or possibly Ubuntu Ibex (what I run on my Acer One), and am really hoping I can at least play 720p content.
