I just installed Boxee on Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy Heron 32-bit version and I'm having a problem getting it to run. It will let me log in but it never gets past the "Boxee Alpha, Connecting..." screen. It just stays there forever. Any ideas why it's doing this?
Here are my system specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition OC @2.8ghz
2gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 800
Palit NVIDIA 8800GT 1GB Sonic Edition
Realtek HD Audio (Onboard)

I assume you have a boxee account? Might be worth deleting the user and trying again.

I tried making a new user (same account) and it logged in fine but when I closed it and came back in, it wouldn't connect. Now I have two users and neither one of them will connect. I tried completely removing Boxee and reinstalling it but it makes no difference. Any other ideas?

i'm assuming you have an Internet connection on the box?
try accessing http://app.boxee.tv using a browser from the same box. if not working, you may have a misconfigured dns server address on the box.

Yup, I can access that page fine. As I said in my last post, I now have multiple of the same user. How do you delete a user? I tried removing and reinstalling it but all the users are still there. Also, I noticed that sometimes when I try to log in, it won't even get to the "Connecting..." screen, it will just freeze.

I was having the same problem until I installed the SDL pulse library instead of the SDL all library.

How do you do that? I'm not that experienced with Linux.

@pcwzrd13 profiles are stored under ~/.boxee/userdata/profiles/ and in ~/.boxee/userdata/profiles.xml
if i understand @tjwallis comment correctly, make sure you have libsdl-dev (in fact, the dependencies for sdl are - libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-gfx1.2-dev libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl-sound1.2-dev libsdl-stretch-dev)

It's still not working. Here's what I did:
1. I installed all the libsdl packages you mentioned with the Synaptics Package Manager.
2. I restarted the PC
3. I did a complete removal of Boxee with the Synaptics Package Manager.
4. I deleted the .Boxee folder.
5. I reinstalled Boxee with the Synaptics Package Manager
6. I ran Boxee, made a new user, and signed in
As soon as I clicked sign in, it froze, and I had to restart my computer with the reset switch. Any other suggestions?

please send me /tmp/xbmc.log
Sorry I took so long to respond. Here it is. It wouldn't let me upload a .log file so I copied and pasted it in a text file.

i think i misread @tjwallis initially. if using pulseaudio, you'll probably need to do something like http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=776739

I don't think I'm using pulseaudio. How do I know if I am or not? I'm using the Realtek HD Audio that's built into my mobo. Windows XP is my primary OS, so I'm not an expert at using Linux. I know enough to use it and install programs. That's about it.

I finally figured out what was wrong. It's the weirdest thing. I noticed when Boxee was trying to connect that my CD-ROM drive was blinking, so I opened it and removed the disk. As soon as I did that, Boxee connected! I tried connecting again with the disk in but it wouldn't. The strange thing is that I only have the problem with my Call Of Duty 4 disk. No other disks that I tried caused a problem.

It might just be my CD-ROM drive. I've had problems with it reading disks in the past. When I put the Call Of Duty 4 disk in my second drive, Boxee starts up fine. Maybe Boxee was trying to look for media on the disk but was unable to read it.
