Ok, just saw the latest announcement on the boxee box and this article on Anandtech regarding blu ray lite support. Will this feature be only on the boxee box or will it soon be added to the beta or final release of the boxee software?

The article also stated that DVD menu support would not be included on the boxee box, so I hope this is not the case for future releases of the boxee software in general.

From the Article
Pros:

1. Bitstreams HD audio from MKV, M2TS and ISO containers
2. uPnP support (DLNA certification will be a technicality)
3. DVD and Blu-Ray ISO support without menus
4. 3D playback of content which can be transferred through HDMI 1.3
5. Multichannel FLAC supported
6. Gapless audio playback supported
7. PGS and forced subtitles in MKV supported
8. Support for SSA / ASS subtitles (first for a dedicated media streamer as far as we know)

Cons:

1. Premium content partners not announced yet
2. Only SMB and HFS+ supported for network storage as of now (No NFS / FTP etc.)
3. No menu support for DVD and Blu-Ray ISOs as of now.
4. HDMI 1.4a support not possible
5. No support for MKV chapters as of now
6. No support for playback of DRM content from external Blu-Ray or DVD drives as of now.

If the BD ISo support is true, it's a step forward, but if the box is not going to have DVD menu support, then we just took 5 steps back.

I'm game to see the final results.

Ugh, what a buzzkill! I pre-ordered mine the moment it hit Amazon and will still buy it, but this is a HUGE issue for me as all my DVDs are ripped to ISOs on my server.

Huge disapointment AGAIN.

iso support but no menu support! So basically if the iso is of a DVD with multiple parts you can only view the first part.

Same problem in my media player (sitecom)

All my musics CDs are backed up as flac files and my DVDs as ISO. Surely lots of people have done the same...loseless and easy to create the original disc again.

Why are the menus never supported, is this some huge fundamental problem or are the developers just missing this?

Are you asking for Bluray menu support for the Boxee Box? If so, no, not available and I believe (due to licensing issues) it won't be added.

You should search the Boxee Box section of the forum -- this thread was last posted nearly a month before the Boxee Box started shipping...

Yes bluray. All you need is the java license.
