I'm having a problem connecting to my external harddrive that is connected by USB to my Airport Extreme. I have no problem viewing files through finder or anything but I can't get Boxee to scan these folders and load up my movies and tv shows. What is the recommended way to set this up? I did it manually and pasted this "smb://10.0.1.1/Media/Movies" and "smb://10.0.1.1/Media/TV Shows" into the location fields and it says Boxee is connected to the drive for a few minutes and a few minutes later it says it isn't connected anymore. This is really driving me nuts!
Thanks guys,
Robby

Here is how I do it..
Go to Boxee menu ->settings....> Local Sources
On right side of screen click "Add Source" then click the folder named "/" and then scroll all the way to the bottom and click "Volumes". Select the name of your drive and click the folder with your content in it. Then click on right side of scree to "Add this Directory", then check the boxes for video and how often you want it to scan the source.
That should do it.

I can't see my network drive if I follow those instructions. The only drive to choose from is my MacBook Pro hard drive.

check a few settings.
In your Finder, do you have your external hard drive mounted and connected in your Shared area on the left hand column? Is it connected before you start up Boxee?
if you can navigate this shared drive from the Finder before opening Boxee, then after starting Boxee you can't see it by my method I described above, I would suggest you trash Boxee and do a re-install.

I will try that. Also is it normal to have to put in the password for it every time I connect to it in Finder?
Thanks for your help!

Actually I figured it out. I didn't know you had to actually open a folder after your connect to the drive to mount it. Thanks for your help!

cool, glad to know it is working now.
This is something that can be frustrating to keep networked. Every time you restart your computer you will need to first connect to your network drive before starting Boxee. In the Finder, you can check a box to remember the password to your Airport Drive when you first connect.

I've found that Boxee should automatically find Samba shares on a local network. I've shared my server's various folders to several computers running Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux through Samba, and Boxee found those shares automatically from all three operating systems. You can also set default Samba credentials under Settings -> Network -> SMB Client.

I had some problems viewing files off my mac onto the Boxee Box and figured it out by checking out the following link

it worked bang on.
Good luck
