The families in that video are wayyyy too happy. It scares me.

Interesting concept I agree and technology in general is headed in this direction down the road with visual recognition, but Boxee and couch surfing go hand in hand.

I needs me remote! :D

Yeah, saw this some months ago on Today Show. Seems interesting, but I'd rather have a button to push myself. :p

I QA'd something like this a long time ago. The game was called "Fun Fair" and it was designed by Intel/Mattel and included the USB Me2Cam. They were the same people who made that big blue USB microscope that some might remember.

Fun Fair was extremely basic 2D but the software/webcam would "scan" you in and place your image within the playing field. From there you can move your body to control the movement of your avatar/image.

The problem we had was the tracking because of the cheap/inexpensive hardware that was involved and room lighting. I've noticed Project Natal having very similar tracking problems.

Natal has good ideas but a remote is much easier, quicker navigation, and proven technology at an extremely affordable price. I'm sure something similar to Natal can be accomplished using a plain webcam and interpreting/converting movement to commands.

edit: never tried these

This whole idea is called "video gesture recognition".
