View Full Version : Where to get a remote receiver?

Hey all. I have a Logitech Harmony (xbox 360 one) which apparently will function as a media center computer remote and would love to use it with boxee but I have no idea where to get a receiver so that I can actually control my computer with it. I'd prefer to not have to purchase another remote in order to acquire one.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Somebody else asked this question and the thread pretty much died on the last comment that it's probably easier to just buy the entire kit as IR-receiver only kits didn't seem to be widely available.

I happen to sell receivers that will work in Windows with Boxee.
The web site is geared toward Mac software that we also sell for use with the Apple Remote, however the receivers will work in Windows as well as Linux (using Lirc) and should come up as MCE-class receivers.
You can use an MCE remote or a Harmony remote with MCE codes or any other codes if you're using software to map codes to commands (such as Lirc, Girder, HiP, etc...)
A number of people have already emailed me letting me know they're using the receivers specifically for Boxee, so I was under the impression Boxee itself had direct support for MCE-class receivers.
I hope to put up a product page specific to the receiver and Boxee will be one of the main targets for its use.
Anyway, they're listed here: http://twistedmelon.com/shop/
You'll want the Manta TR1 alone, without the software, for use with Boxee in Windows or Linux.

Dude, my Microsoft (from XP/MCE days) IR receiver just died this past week. It worked like a charm with my Harmony remote (550) and Intelliremote server software on Vista for a couple of years. In looking around for a replacement, I've actually run across reviews of other IR receivers that will not work in my environment (!?!?!)
If you can verify that I would be good to go with the Manta TR1 receiver, then you have a customer! :D

I bought one of these because I really wanted a true MCE IR receiver; there are remote / IR receiver pairs out there that do NOT use the same IR codes as the original / true MCE remote/receivers. Since I've got my Harmony 550 and Intelliremote server software nicely tuned to use MCE codes, I needed a drop-in replacement.
And that's exactly what I got :) (Though Vista saw it as a brand new HID so I had to go through the initial set-up shennigans in order to turn off WMC from starting up no matter what, the double-press issue, etc.)
The only small downside to ordering this device is that shipping takes forever, almost two full weeks from eastern Canada to western U.S. But totally worth the wait.
