Boxee Remote – remote control for Boxee Home theater

Boxee is a cross-platform freeware Home theater PC (HTPC) program with a 10-foot user interface and social networking features designed for the living-room TV.

This is a simple remote for Windows Mobile devices that allows you to operate basic program functions using a wireless connection (WiFi or cellular).

Features:

* Navigation mode: up, down, left, right, select, back, home and exit

* Play mode: play, pause, stop, rewind, forward, previous, next, volume up, volume down, mute

* Input mode: allows text input into Boxee (hardware keyboards supported)

* Other functions: toggle fullscreen, suspend

* Media information: title, artist, season/episode, duration, summary, thumbnail etc.

* Hardware keys supported (up, down, left, right, select, vol up, vol down)

* Automatic pause on phone call or SMS

* Automatic discovery of the machine running Boxee (manual configuration is also possible)

* FREE!

How to use it:

* First step is to inform in program settings the address (IP or host name) of the machine where Boxee is running on. Alternatively use the “Discover” command and the remote will try to locate it (see note below).

* Press “Mode” to alternate between the three available ways to control Boxee: Navigation, Play or Input.

* Click thumbnail to obtain more information about the media currently playing.

Known issues/limitations:

* Discovery function is still unstable. If it does not work, click on “Discover” again to cancel the operation and then enter the server address manually in program settings. If commands still do not work, check if Boxee’s webserver is active (program settings).

Been using this app on my HTC Touch Pro 2. Not bad, but I have had some issues with it.

I have not been able to manually enter the IP address of the computer with Boxee and have it work. Not sure if my format is correct but this is what I use: http://192.168.1.4 The port number is 8800. No password.

When I use "discover" the phone gives me an error and says that it cannot detect computer with Boxee. However, clear the error, wait a few seconds, and the remote works the computer with Boxee.

When I try to use the input mode, just jiberish shows up on the screen. Cannot input any words.

Anybody else been trying this app? Thoughts?

Not sure if this is what you did, but you should not include the "http://" part in the address field.

There is a new version (0.92) that address this issue. ;)

Hi, my htc touch viva dosnt seem to auto discover boxee on my pc. Even when I enter the IP manually it still dosnt pair up with the pc.

Please help. When I manually entered my ip as 10.0.0.3 and pressed the keys it says command not recogonised

First off thanks for the really neat program it has great potential.

The issue I'm having is when I go into input mode and begin typing it looses focus after around 7 seconds. I have to tap back into the input bar to resume typing. It happens over and over again.

I've tried it on multiple phones Touch pro 2 (WM6.1), Treo 800w (WM6.1) HTC Mogul (WM6), and Samsung i730 (WM5).

They all do the exact same thing. Using Boxee Remote 0.92.
