How to start boxee with apple remote

I'm running MacOS 10.5.8 and the apple remote works fine in boxee but I'd like the remote to start boxee when I press the menu button.

I've read somewhere that in order to do that I should enable "always running" in the remote control settings of boxee. However when I have that enabled nothing happens when I press the menu button. If I don't have "always running" enabled pressing the menu button starts Front Row

but... I am not sure how it works with FrontRow still on the machine. I deleted mine a while back as I got sick of it always opening.
