Slow Boxee on Ubuntu 8.04

I have installed boxee on Ubuntu Hardy. It is running with miserable lag. Vsync is set to "0". One issue I know I have comes from the results of "glxinfo".


glxinfo | grep -i direct
direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)

I have no idea how to "set" that setting. Any help?

what type of video card do you have?

also, do you have the binary-drivers from it's manufacture installed?

ATI Radeon 9600 (I'm pretty sure). I am using a proprietary driver according to the "hardware drivers" utility. I don't know if that is the binary-driver. I went ahead and updated my ATI driver. The screen resolution is now much higher, and a bit disproportional. Boxee doesn't run any faster though. Mouse is still pretty much unuseable.
