Hi,
In the past few weeks I have been collecting some bugs and usability issues, and here is my list so far.
Suggestion : a button to open subtitle search through the remote control
Complaint : The UI for the subtitles search is huge. it doesn't make any sense to hide half of the video while searching the subtitles.
should be much smaller during the search.
Complaint : Subtitle search fails in about 50% of the time. some times it times out on xmlrpc request and other times it just returns 0 results.
Possible solutions:
1. improve UI to indicate zero results (IE: show - 'nothing found' or something).
2. Make more reliable. a few possibilities are to either retry automatically, or to add a server side cache for subtitles on Boxee's servers.
Suggestion : Automatic subtitle search based on language selection (with priority, for example : 1st - Hebrew, 2nd English ..)
Suggestion : Automatic font selection based on subtitle language.
Complaint : Hitting the remote control power button shut down immediatelly, should work like hitting 's' on the keyboard.
Complaint : Several screens does not remember view settings, for example 'TV Shows'. changing the view does not stick.
Complaint : After long inactivity the screen is blank and does not reappear on all keys. Remote back button orkeyboatd 'tab' fixes it.
Complaint : Hitting 'display' in the remote while navigating the UI switch to the movie, problem is that hitting remote 'display' again stops the movie. 'display' should work like keyboard 'v' (Toggle video)
Complaint: Full HD h264 playback (1920x1080) is too slow on a Pentium D 3ghz.
Mplayer with coreavc performs much better than Boxee for this codec.
Boxee does utilize mutliple cores, but it looks like the average usage is far below 100% for each core (more like 65%-70%)
Complaint: It takes a very long time for a new video file to recognized after it's added.
consider using file system notifications (INotify etc) to respond to new files in a more timely manner.
Keep up the good work,
Omry.
