View Full Version : Library mode issues

I have a few problems with the way the Local videos library currently works. I have been using xbmc for a long time and just recently moved over to a mac mini with plex. Currently I am running the xTV theme for XBMC which has separation for Movies and TV Shows which works very well as I have both setup as their own sources. Now for my complaints about Boxee :(

1) Library cleanup does not function so I have duplicated files for every item in the library currently

2) Mixing Movies / Tv Shows in the same list along with non library folders is incredibly confusing and honestly unusable for me. I have about 400gb of media on my drive at any given time and not segmenting the list makes it a paint to search through.

3) The way plex works with the apple remote seems to make more sense with the single press vs. press and hold. I have no way of stopping playback or going up a single level in the library views. Very frustrating!

I really like Boxee so far however and the look and feel is great. I honestly don't like FrontRow or the emulation of it with xTV but it will work until Boxee gets up to speed with the ui/ux. Awesome work so far!

I just realized there was a filter in the options menu for tv shows, movies etc. So while the filters exist they are buried in a menu. It would be much nicer to have them across the top of the browse menu for quick access. I suppose the same thing could be said for browsing music. It would be great to hide the non library items in a different filter.

we are working on ui improvements and still contemplating about how optimal navigation should look like (hey... this is the point in alpha...:) )

thanks again and welcome to boxee!

Thanks for the response Idan.

I am overall very impressed with the Boxee theme and I love the social concept in particular the recommendations. I have a few people in my office already playing around with it.

Something else I ran into today with the library that I found confusing is multi-part files and stacking. For example:

Filename_a.avi
Filename_b.avi

Should be stacked and considered Filename. I ran into this with Wanted in which the metadata returned Wanted, a baby. Not exactly the same movie :D

Maybe this should be moved to feature requests or bugs...

I would go a step further and suggest that these filters should be (1) enabled by default, and (2) persistent across sessions.

For example, 'Filter > Audio Files' should automatically be turned on when browsing the Music section, and should stay on until you specifically change it (and then it should remember whatever you set it to for next time). 'Filter > Picture Files' should be on for the Pictures section, 'Filter > Video Files' for the Movies section, &c. I mean i personally can't fathom why on earth i would want to look at pictures when i've specifically chosen Music from the main menu. ... Right?
