I was looking for a good pc remote but their didn't seem to be many options available.

I then found this remote on ebay and it works a charm:

Have to laugh, Adam, but I have the same remote. It does work very well and it is built much better than I expected.
My only complaint is that I can't use the pause/forward/reverse etc. buttons when watching a DVD. I have to use the enter button, then access the on screen commands. No big deal once I got used to it.
For the money it's been awesome!

That's a software thing. Those buttons work fine for me in winamp and media player classic. There might be a way for your DVD software to support global media hotkeys.

Oh man...
I have this remote, and it's a nightmare. If you're right, and it's a software issue that you can work out, I'd be delighted to hear about it...

Otherwise, I've found that sometimes pressing "Vol+" button randomly shuts down my computer, or sometimes "Vol+" will open every window and application on my desktop.... It's really a crap shoot.

If you can return this product, I highly recommend it.

I've got two of them on two different computers and neither of them do that. I think you may have a dud.
I think because they are so cheap - maybe their QA isn't so good. But if you get a good one it works a charm.

Funny to stumble on this post. I have the same remote (as many others on this forum do)... and was just cruising the forum to find additional info for software configuration.

It works great for the price. You can program almost all the buttons using hotkeys. There is also software available that will help you configure almost anything (hence why I'm trolling here right now). Look into EventGhost (http://www.eventghost.org/)

While on the subject of this remote. I finally figured out how to wake up my laptop from sleep!!

Within the bios there is a option for wake from usb. Turned that on... now the power button on the remote will put the laptop to sleep... push it again and it will wake.

I can finally say this remote is now doing everything I need it to do for now ; )

Another resource is LMGestation (http://www.lmgestion.net) btw.

I'd like to get Boxee to open when you press the green media center button.

I think you need to set it as the "Default Media Player" in windows. But my only options are winamp / windows media player / windows media center.

You can... at least in windows xp...

- Create boxee shortcut on desktop
- Right click on shortcut and open properties
- Click under "Shortcut key"
- Press remote button you wish to assign. You should see something like "F4+4" appear
- Save.

I have the orange button set to open boxee....

I have this remote and love it most of the times! LOL

I had to dig it out of a box cause when it wouldn't work with VLC i got stuck there. I used to use it with Kmplayer but when i reinstalled windows i never reinstalled Kmplayer

Im gonna try those shortcuts... i sometimes hit the esc or my pc button by accident but other than that Its great for Boxee

I too bought this remote. However I have taught my Harmony 525 to replicate this remote.

I have a revo 3160 which is used exclusively for Boxee. So I just get Win 7 to run Boxee from startup.

With the help of Logitech phone support I managed to get them to get the thing up and running really nicely. However I'm only using left, right,up,down,Esc['Exit' on Harmony],Enter['OK' on Harmony].

To pause I need to press 'OK' twice and then press it twice again to play. I am going to map this key presses to the relevant pause play buttons on Harmony together with skip and fast foward info too.

I needed phone support because I could not eradicate the double movement and slowness. FYI you will need to choose Chinavision CVSb-983 as media center to get this remote to work with Harmony and then teach the IR using raw mode. However it does work perfectly.

That is mighty cheap. Does anyone know if it will work with Ubuntu?

I've got the same cheep remote, and the basics work fine with Boxee. However, it would be a lot better if I could get the play/pause, ffwd, rew, stop buttons to work also.

From what I understand, I need to figure out what codes the remote is sending when those buttons are pressed, then edit an xml file and replace the default codes with the ones sent by the remote.

Has anyone already done this, and would you be willing to share the finished product so that I can remain lazy and ignorant? Otherwise, can someone tell me how to determine which codes are being sent? I installed EventGhost with the expectation that this would tell me, but I wasn't sure which Plugin to use for the IR Reciever, and I've tried about half a dozen with no luck. Anyone know which plugin to use?

TIA
