I've been using Boxee since early Alpha and I love it but have since moved to XBMC for one simple reason... In XBMC I can easily setup my Wiimote to work with XBMC and it works unbelievably but with Boxee it's just junk... Sure I can use wminput and hack something together and hope that it works all the time and watch the battery on my Wiimote die every 8 hours while I have very very limited use of the boxee interface... But with XBMC it's only as hard as downloading a single XBMC-Wiiremote package and hitting the 1 and 2 buttons on the Wiimote... And BAM!!! I have unbelievable control of XBMC from direct settings in every part of the interface to simple pause and stop controls... Now with Boxee being based on XBMC and looking in the logs and seeing that it notices the Wiimote connected to my Bluetooth why did you guys just drop this feature alltogether? Has anyone figure out how to get this to work at all? Sigh...

I also have my Dell Axim x30 which I wouldn't mind using but crazy enough the iPhone has an app for it and Android is on the way but Windows Mobile has nothing? WTH!!!

Everyone keeps trying to compare Boxee to XBMC as "things were dropped." Boxee's foundation is on XBMC code....not everything that works on XBMC automatically works on Boxee. All these 'functionalities' have to be coded into Boxee to work with all of it's functions. There is no On / Off switch to just make these XBMC options just work. Though, that would be cool.

There are still some fundamental differences between the to programs. Add to that, the huuuuuge undertaking the devs have to get all these additional functions to work correctly. Just recently, Avner posted that over 500 bugs have been nailed since the beta release. They have been trying to get the kinks out of the core functionality of Boxee beta. Once nailed, then they can start looking at all these individual and separate function support options. And they will be ranked on many attributes, such as: overall need, added value to the boxee product, request frequency, popularity and ease of implementation..yadda yadda...(not in any particular order). And there are thousands of "why don't you have this" requests.

With that, there are other remote options available. They may not be the wii, but there are some nonetheless. ;)

Go here and see if there is already a suggestion for the wii. If not, post a suggestion and then post your link here for users to vote on it. http://getsatisfaction.com/boxee/

Maybe it will get implemented sooner rather than later?

Sorry if I came across rather harsh just having a bad morning I guess you could say... What I mean is if you watch the Boxee log during start up with a Wiimote connected you'll notice that Boxee recognizes the Wiimote as a remote control just like it recognizes a PS3 Remote as well through bluetooth... These are core functions of XBMC and apparently made it through to Boxee via core implementation from XBMC... What I meant was why these features were "left" in but not fully implemented? I guess that would be my question...

EDIT: I've pretty much exhausted all of my remote control options... I've basically been reduced to controlling Boxee through my laptop via Ubuntu's built in remote desktop (VNC)... This is beyond silly but it works and it's the only way I can control it... I don't want to purchase a remote that I don't know 100% I can get working with Boxee because no matter how many people will say it works 100% there's always 2 or 3 that just can't get it going and that's usually me... I was one of the originals pushing for the Windows Mobile interface but it has since been abandoned... Sigh... Just at my wits in I suppose...

Because not everything can be fully implemented all at once. The developers have to prioritize. I would expect that alot of things that were "left in" will be "picked up" down the road. That's one of the reasons it's called... beta :)

Wait I've been using my Wiimote with Boxee as well ever since my mini remote on my laptop died. You can just run GlovePIE and map the keys, there's even a file somewhere around here already presetup and connected, only problem is getting GlovePIE to run at startup and with the script running, but other than that if its not a htpc it should be pretty easy.

Thats the one with the guide and file. Its setup nicely so you can figure how to change if it you want. I'm looking to other automated solutions for now, but it that should work if you want to use your wiimote with boxee.

Well, I can't vouch for that working, but looks promising. Though, that tweak was made for Alpha (see dates of posts).

Are you using this in Beta too?

To expand further:

It still comes down to those core functionalities. You may see it load, but there are some things that are not completely compatible yet with all the inner workings of beta, so they are left turned off. ;)

I've used both GlovePIE and wminput (Windows and Linux) and currently my HTPC is running Ubuntu so no go there for GlovePIE... wminput works minimally but it's a pain to get started... Half the time only works for a short time and if decides to break then you have to reboot the entire machine which for me seems about 2-3 times daily... Plus the fact that once connected to your PC the Wiimote stays on until you tell it not to be on... It's possible and I know how to do it... But it's not at all practical and was hoping maybe someone had came up with a way to get the XBMC-eventclients to work with Boxee... Guess I'll have to wait on Windows Mobile or continue using XBMC and just get my web video via Google Chrome... Sigh... Thank you for the help...

I did not see if you are running a Mac or not but if you are there is RemoteBuddy. Its from the people that make the Candelair drivers for the Apple Remote. I have not used it myself but it has Wiimote support and does say it supports Boxee.

Reading about this App for MacOS is what lead to my solution... And as soon as I can test it at home with my main HTPC instead of my laptop I'll be set for life with Boxee...
