We have mac minis on each TV in the house - since we canceled cable, thats it.
I have two G4s still (guestroom and kitchen) and I'm thinking of replacing them with some kind of cheap intel box running linux just for Boxee

Originally built my home theater pc for windows vista. Was running windows 7 (AMAZING) By the way. Been using Boxee on my macbook ever since i got accepted and just fell in love with it. Me being curious i decided to see how awesome it would look on my 52" Samsung did the boot-135 and used my macbooks leopard disc to install leopard. First thing i did was install boxee.

And I absolutely love it. Here my system specs.

Modified the screen to say "Welcome to boxee"

In the process of trying to figure out how to create your plug ins or add your own streams
so if anybody out there can point me in teh right direction i will really appreciate it.

Quad 9450
4gb of ram
Ati 2600 xt
5tb storage (Have over 300 movies, 10k + music and pictures)
Everything under osx86 is working fine sounds being pumped to my denon reciever through optical out.

So perrin21 your not the only one.
I am actually planning to build a cheap system or 2 and give one to my brother with boxee installed. And the other might go to my room.

Hey nice system, i love origen cases, the build quality is ace. Nice to see another with a custom Mac. I believe these are the future, at least until apple build a decent HTPC (they probably wont). I send my digital output to my Tagmclaren AV32R, sounds great.

I agree.

I highly doubt APPLE will release a full blown media center being that one of their core business models is selling digital media.

But to enthusiast like you and I we are only a couple of parts of way from having what the world waits for.
OSX86 runs perfectly fine on my computer.

I guess we are the only 2 custom mac users so far with boxee.

I added you to my friends list..

lol the elite hehehe.

I used to run OSX86 but i now use Efi-x, it means that nothing is hacked, i can take out my main drive and put it into my macs and it runs fine. Updates also work perfectly every time. Only downside is you need a specialist supported motherboard etc. I also have an msi wind running OSX86 and its a great little machine.

What is interesting about the results so far above is that more people are using the Apple Tv for Boxee than a mac mini or any other computer. Im surprised by this result as i thought Apple hadn't sold many Apple Tv's. Also the fact that Boxee doesn't work properly on these devices due to the fact that the GPU isnt being utilised properly also adds to the surprise.

I run boxee on a Mac Mini C2D 2GHz, 2GB RAM with a 750GB HDD connected via Firewire.

I also have a 15" MacBook Pro C2D 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM which I run boxee on to show of to mates etc. :)

24 hours later and the mac mini has regained its lead, followed closely by the Apple TV.

I installed it on MacBook Pro yesterday, already in love with this! Once I get everything setup I am planning to setup boxee on my mac mini video server.

Hi GenNove - I am looking to go this direction myself but not sure where to start with hardware, cases etc in regards to cost and compatibility.

If you've already looked into this, I'd love to know what you had in mind.

after fiddeling around with boxee installs on my MacBook Pro, Asus EEbox (eeebuntu) and Vista, i have picked a secondhand macbook yesterday for € 500,00 ...

Funny to find that my eebox upgrade (2Gb and 320 Gb drive) fitted right in my macbook with linux still working after the 'transplant', it booted right up from eeebuntu :)

Then installed osx and boxee and now finally have the system i want:

Macbook under my tv/stereo with cover closed .. i control it with my apple remote and run my downloads and other stuff from my MBP through the screensharing option! fantastic and pretty swift as well!

Macbook allows me to run hotspotshield as well, so i can watch Hulu in NL :D
too bad CBS is a bit choppy frm time to time, but quite seriously happy right now!

I could use my useless Eeebox as een server, but i think i will stick to my apple-stuff .. .just too much hastle :mad:

Why didnt you just buy a new mac mini out of interest?

MacBooky
January 5th, 2009, 09:06 AM
Because it's so hard to upgrade  and a macbook is dead-easy to upgrade

a 1.83mhz mini would set me back 499 with the only differences being a core2duo processor and it being new ... furthermore the macbook might come in handy on holidays and other stuff :D (+ it still has 6 months of applecare on it ..)

I tried apple tv as well, but found it to slow .... so i brought it back for a full refund :p

I'm using a macbook, mainly as when I play video from my NAS in VLC it stutters every so often but plays flawlessly in boxee.

AppleTV here, but the poll's closed.

As much as I enjoy Boxee, I don't know how long I can live with the issues of the AppleTV. I've got a couple PC's laying around, and an old G4. I'm gonna look into getting these devices up to spec. Worth it?

I've just posted here regarding this; http://forum.boxee.tv/showpost.php?p=27251&postcount=4

Do you think hotspotshield would work with the iplayer for those outside the UK?

Right now it's on a 1.6 CoreDuo Mac Mini connected to my TV with a DVI->HDMI cable and TOSLINK to my decoder.
