Hey Guys,
I just released the Boxee wifi remote app I've been working on to the Android Market. You'll see it if you search for 'boxee'.
or use qr code:
http://sunilsadasivan.com/boxee_qr.png
The remote will auto-scan for your Boxee device. It has support for both soft and hard keyboard, playback buttons, volume.
Let me know what you guys think. (boxee@sunilsadasivan.com).
Thanks,
Sunil

It's working but it looses connection every 2 minutes...
I think it's really just a substitute if you wouldn't wnat to buy a IR remote. it doesn't add features that an IR remote could'nt have. I'd love to see playlists on the phone so I could use my boxee Jukebox without a television.
Keep it up!

The remote seems to work on my Droid, although I did not use it for an extended period of time.
One thing that I noticed is that it is in some kind of a busy loop, consuming a lot of CPU time, even when it is not connected to a boxee server, and draining the battery very quickly. As a matter of fact, when I looked where the battery power is spent, the boxee remote was in first place with 80 or 90 percent.

Thanks for letting me know about the battery issue. I know whats causing this. I'll be issuing an update for this sometime soon.

I experienced the same on my hero (100%cpu consumption). Had to kill the process with a task manager in order to be able to continue using the phone.
It's propably an alpha version and shold be given out throught the market yet.

Is there any chance you'll be uploading the source code? Would love to see how you scan the network to find boxee computers :-)

@gaspedalo is this after the 1.0.2 update? I have not been able to test the app on the hero. Can you email me at boxee@sunilsadasivan.com to give me more details of when you are seeing 100 percent cpu usage.
@gauntface It's possible I may release the source code sometime in the near future. Since the app is still in alpha mode, I would rather keep the source closed since there are changes still being made.
The way I scan the network is I send a specific broadcast message out. Boxee receives it and sends out its details. Boxee uses the XBMC web remote protocol and this is mentioned in its specification.

I'm running the latest Boxee beta on Windows XP. I downloaded your App an hour ago. Both my DROID (192.168.0.4) and my Boxee netbook (192.168.0.6) are on the same network.
I went into Boxee's Settings > Servers and checked Enable Webserver, and I left the server port at the default of 8800. I have tried to scan with your app both with and without a password, and with and without setting the Host Address and Host Port on the app.
Every time is gives me the "No Servers Found" error.
P.S. I have disabled Windows XP's Firewall for troubleshooting this. So I am baffled.

Could you please post apk file here?
I want to try it but I can't download Boxee remote on my HTC Tattoo from Android market.
And could you please make future vesions work on devices with 320x240 screen resolutin?
Thanks.

I am seeing the same thing on Windows 7 64 bit.
I have no issues with it on Win7 64 bit.. I don't mean to sound condescending, but make sure you're connected to your wifi network. My eris drops my wifi fairly regularly when idle, so I need to make sure it is reconnected before it will work for me.

Just discovered boxee and am very impressed having been an avid fan of XBMC for years.
This remote sadly looses the connection with the server after 2key presses.
I will keep an eye out for updates, this is on the motorola milestone with the new firmware upgrade installed last night.
Hadnt tested on the old firmware as i didnt know the remote existed sadly, otherwise would have let you know if it was just an issue with the new firmware.
Many thanks for your work on this project, after seeing the official iphone app i was a little disheartend to not see an android app, as i'd been using GMote up til now. Which is just a java media launcher with a fairly nice phone client. You can control mouse and keyboard over it as wel, and launch webpages from the screen of the phone onto ur PC screen. Maybe a future feature of this remote?
Once there is a stable android remote for boxee i will be an even happier camper with the whole package. The original xbox could finally earn its resting place...

Web server doesn't seem to work on latest Mac version of Boxee Beta 0.9.20.10708 , It didn't even have the web remote code. I loaded it following these instructions http://code.google.com/p/boxee-web-remote/wiki/Installation and not you can see it in a web browser but the android app still can't find the webserver? Is there another piece of code missing? Any other suggestions?

OK, I was also able to get the web server to work by coming the relevant files to /opt/boxee/web - but this Android app still doesn't work for me. :/
There is another android app that does work for me called Boxee/XBMC remote when I hard coded in my IP/Port (scanning doesn't work) but it doesn't look as sexy as this one.
I think the hard-coding of IP on Boxee Wifi Remote doesn't seem to work...

Its a good remote, although I have to say that it is quite limited in terms of functionality. It can also be quite hard to navigate left right up down in terms of how acurate you have to be when pressing.
Im now using the XBMC remote, which worked fine with boxee. The bext thing is that it has a library view so you can literally do everything whilst looking at the phone screen, rather than having to look at the phone whilst watching the tv screen.
The XBMC remote which works with boxee is available from android market

I personally use XBMC / Boxee remote by Chandan Pitta, not the best looking UI but it works extremely well with most features compared to the other apps I tried:

Tired  of trying applications that do not work on htc Tattoo, I decided to do it my self.
This is my first application for Android, it's simple but it works.
Download Boxee WiFi Remote (http://androiddodias.blogspot.com/2010/12/project-01-boxee-remote-control.html) :)

Thanks Sunil,
It works just like the Boxee remote. However it would be great if you could make the cursor move as a function of the Android touch screen and improve on what one gets with the Boxee remote controller.
