Type in a nickname to identify yourself.
Click the "Connect" button and "Run" on any security dialogs that might pop up.
Start chatting away once you're in the channel!

guys post some instructions on how to enter the IRC .. i know there is a wiki page about it ..maybe arrange an agenda once every few weeks (specifically for ATV user or mac guys ,feature requests etc..)

For people who do not want to download an IRC client you can try using mibbit, an Ajax-ified web client that works rather well. Go here:
http://www.mibbit.com/chat/
Choose FreeNode from the IRC dropdown list.
Enter a nickname in the Nick box.
Enter #boxee in the Channel box
Click Go.

Easy!

I have also found that theres a boxee channel on Undernet as well. Seems to be alot smaller but a tad more helpfull.

Wibbit has apparently went totally haywire so if you run Firefox you can give this (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16) a try...
