Is there an official IRC channel for boxee development? The lack of a "normal" bug tracking application and official IRC channel, make Boxee seem a little off in the normal community collaboration way that most open source projects are run.
I for one would love to see an official IRC channel and all of the bugs from the forum moved to an official bug tracker (something like bugzilla or similar).

Since XBMC is the core of Boxee we could use #XBMC on Freenode. If there's enough demand we could always startup our own channel. How many others are interested in a dedicated IRC channel on Freenode?
I agree with a bugtrack system. It would help to make others more confident in knowing that bugs are tracked and resolved.
What bugtrack software would you suggest?

I would prefer to not use the #XBMC channel. I've asked a few questions in there and they aren't very inclined to help once you state you're trying to get boxee to work. It's not that they don't like boxee, but that most aren't using it.
As for a bug tracking system, it depends on the type of project that boxee is going to be. I really like www.launchpad.net. It has the bug tracker, has mailing lists, source control, feature blueprints, etc. It's usually for open source projects. I've also used sourceforge and code.google.com, but I prefer launchpad.
It is my understanding that boxee is run by a New York based company. They might be less inclined to let another site run their bug tracker. If they want to host the bug tracker, then I would recommend bugzilla. I have used it for a couple years through work and it's pretty lightweight and feature complete. Plus there are several client applications that can hook into the system to give the desktop application feel to using it, if web based bug tracking isn't your thing.

An really nice project software package is Trac - http://trac.edgewall.org/ - it includes a wiki, code formatting, bug tracking, etc.

actually, team-boxee uses trac internally.
+1 for trac (over launchpad)
+1 for irc.

I'm cool with trac. I think it would be an improvement over the bug reporting in the forum like we do now.

if i recall correctly, we had #boxee going on freenode a while back, but it was very inactive due to the early stage of development.
but boxee is growing, and if there's enough interest for the channel, i would love to hang out in there and help people out whenever possible.
got my +1
edit: by the way, just checked it out and it's still going, come on in :)

You could also look into some of the Customer Feedback sites, like http://getsatisfaction.com and http://uservoice.com

I see this thread is about a month old. Did a public bug tracker end up getting setup in the mean time? If so, donde esta? If not, I'll give +1 to Trac also.

I have also found that theres a boxee channel on Undernet as well. Seems to be alot smaller but a tad more helpfull.
/server us.undernet.org
/join #boxee
Some of you might want to check that one out as well.
