View Full Version : Won't Index VIDEO_TS DVD Burns

First, I DID name my files correctly. I have a small library of only 7 movies right now, so I shouldn't run into the "hours of indexing" that some people experience.
I'm running the latest Boxee Beta on an iMac, Snow Leopard.
Here are the problem movies, and how my movies are organized.
\Users\Michael\Movies\Seven.Pounds.(2008)\VIDEO_TS \bunch of files
\Users\Michael\Movies\The Little Mermaid (1989)\VIDEO_TS\bunch of files
Neither of these movies will index. They also happen to be the only movies I have with VIDEO_TS burns. All my other movies are video files. For example:
\Users\Michael\Movies\Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (2009)\transformers2.mkv
Transformers indexes just fine. Shows up. Plays fine.
So what gives? Are others having this issue? Maybe its a Boxee Beta thing?

I don't believe video_ts files are supported by Boxee.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxee#Format_support lists supported file formats.

These forums suggest that Boxee supports Video_TS
http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=1530
...here under "Notes and considerations on file types"
http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=5214&highlight=video_TS
and here...
**************however....
This forum seems to suggest that nowadays, Boxee doesn't have Video_TS support:

so can anyone report whether they have Video_TS files working in Boxee Beta?

The one post given was back in Alpha days (novemeber 2009).
Rumor has it that TS is not supported in Boxee beta as it was in Alpha, I tried it like your example and did not work.
But, what if you remove the Video TS folder from the string. Like this:
\Users\Michael\Movies\Seven.Pounds.(2008)\bunch of files
Try that. If not, then you can put them in an ISO file. Those are supported in Beta,.

I'd like to know why automatic recognition of VIDEO_TS titles has apparently been removed, and whether it will be reappearing.
I've tried converting some of my VIDEO_TS titles to ISO using Disk Utility on Mac, but Boxee wouldn't play them. Boxee will play the the contents of a VIDEO_TS folder from the file browser, though so I hope that automatic recognition will be reinstated soon.

It's not that this feature was purposely removed. Beta was a complete rewrite over alpha. So, given that this is quite a huge undertaking, some things had to take priority, while others went to the back of the bus. ;)
I've been told that this should return in a future beta build. No ETA. Given that this is Beta, not all features are built in yet or work 100%.
I've tried TS files in Boxee and they don't play on my Windows machines. My ISO's do play with full menu function. Odd how your experience is the exact opposite. Maybe this is related to the Mac Mac build alone?
As long as you are formatting your ISO correctly (Im unfamiliar with your ISO program being used or Mac) then they should play.

Thanks for the info. Great to hear that VIDEO_TS indexing will be returning. Hopefully it'll be soon. I'll probably just wait for that rather than waste time trying to convert everything to ISO.
I don't know why my ISO files don't work - VLC won't play them either. Following tips here and elsewhere, I made them using Apple's Disk Utility, choosing 'New image from folder', converting the folder enclosing the VIDEO_TS into a 'CD/DVD image', then manually changing the extension from .cdr to .iso.
If there's a better way to do this on a Mac, I'd love to know.

I'd seen that, but didn't find it helpful. Most of the answers are recommendations for software that isn't Mac-compatible or that doesn't (on the face of it) convert VIDEO_TS to ISO.
If there's specific info on there that you recommend, please post it here.
Thanks!
