Hi All,
I have just been trying to get ubuntu to install on the PS3 for the single purpose of installing boxee on it.
Now ubuntu works great on the PS3 but it uses a PowerPC kernel. Is there any chance you could create the PowerPC binary packages?
or does any one know how to compile the source code into a PowerPC package?
thanks
Luciano

There are already lots of posts on the XBMC forums about this so here is the most useful link i could find...

Summary is..
They have started to port to PPC
however for it to work on the PS3 would take other projects to mature to
very unlikely to happen this year(if ever)
oh well :(

indeed. the issue would be more for lack of video acceleration under linux/ps3, than porting to ppc.

Ah, that's a bummer. I already have a PS3 and was trying to avoid building another rig as a dedicated HTPC.

I have to agree. While it would definitely be cool, I don't see this in the foreseeable future unless someone figures out how to bypass the PS3 hypervisor that's preventing direct access to the hardware.
