This might be handy to know what the "n00bs" think of Boxee and what the adoption rate is.
My partner uses Boxee but it took some convincing ;)

Come on guys! Give me something :)
The idea behind this question is weather Boxee is simple enough for "normal" people or not at the moment.

I have boxee on my atv, so the answer to your question is:
Yes and no.
She has used it a few times, but the following tend to prevent her from using it too much.
1. boxee crashes - it just happens too often for the non tech users, plus some crashes just cause everything to hange and you need to reboot the atv to fix it.
2. some of the menu navigation when the video is playing is a bit confusing. The main issue here is if you press "menu" on the apple remote when a video is playing the system returns to the menu's with the vidoe running in the background. (this confuses to the non tech) - this one is kind of the like the "to turn off your PC go to START" in windows. There is also the press pause does not actuall pause the video, you have to press pause twice.
3. (biggest reason) I am always using it and trying to get more content on to it.
I do think boxee is on the rigth track, with a few more releases and some more work on the bugs I could see my family using it.
As for the kids questions, I don't think it is safe enough yet as there are no parental controls yet.

My girlfriend uses Boxee on our Apple TV. She likes it but complains about it crashing.

In other words: it's not ready for the general public :(

My wife understands what Boxee is, and likes the aesthetic of it, but is completely unaware of and uninterested in the back end. So long as I fill our Mac up with video content, she’s happy using Boxee to view it. So far, she would rather use a browser to view web content like YouTube though—just a case of using what you’re used to, I think.

My wife and two daughters, ages 7 & 12, are very adept at using boxee. My youngest loves to search YouTube for music videos using boxee.
I , however, do the grunt work of keeping the network sources loaded with ripped DVDs and other media. But as a whole Boxee on AppleTV has been very well recieved in our household. Funny thing is I don't have any AppleTV crashes. I don't use any High Def. media. We are still on an older Standard Def. 16:9 TV though.

My wife won't use it. She's moderatelty patient with technology (a MacBook fan, she'll watch Netflix and ABC Player on her laptop happily), but Boxee is veeery slow for a start, and it's hard to stop watching a video and switch to something else without either an endless wait, a crash or it playing the audio int he background even after backing out of a video.
It's a great thing to play around with, but not ready for impatient perfectionist family...

My wife won't use boxee, mainly due to the crashes and weird navigation found on the appleTV. Click left to get to the menu? Clicking menu opens up the MAIN menu not the control menu? Clicking play/pause brings up a control menu? Fast forward only moves 30 seconds? To start a movie you need to click on videos, then movies, then the movie, then "play movie." Then if I just started boxee you need to click play to bring up the menu, go to settings, go to audio, change to audio track 2 (dolby digital), then apply as defaults. The defaults never last past a session.
Sapphire, on the other hand, she bounces around quite nicely. Even XBMC with my custom keymap (making it work like the appleTV remote is setup) she can get around just fine as well.

My wife has started using Boxee on our Apple TV, and loves it so far. She is still trying to figure out what channels hold what content. Even my eldest (10) is able to work the controls without prompting. The hardest part so far has been showing them how to stop playing content if they accidentally activate the other menus. I'll be setting up Boxee on a Linux box this weekend and I'll let you know their reaction.

My Fiance will use it, but always complains about the poor performance. Last night we watched a movie using XBMC and she loved it, faster response times, ability to fast forward/rewind etc...
