Probably just my old laptop

Hey, Cannot get boxee to run at all on my Laptop its a T30 IBM laptop - running Hardy Heron fully up to date.. XBMC runs perfectly.

Am i snookered or can I turn the balnk Sync off

hi shanedoyle and thanks for this report.
if your hardware is capable of running xbmc it should be capable of running boxee.
in order to turn vsync off you'll need to play with the <vsync> values in "~/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/guisettings.xml". the default is "2" which is always on.
try setting it to 1 or 0 (always off or only on during video playback).

For getting back to me so quickly.. can you provide the full path to the file u want me to change.. I think ive changed the right file but the directory location is different.. Im running XBMC on it fine - Its Hardy heron Kubuntu on a T30 IBM laptop..

And it wont even laod the gui for me..
Ive changed the VSYNC to both as you suggested but the file isnt where u said it was ~/.boxee/UserData$ - appreciate your help assume ur going to be very busy with this!!

oops. i listed the path on osx distributions. sorry.
it is in ~/.boxee/UserData/guisettings.xml

just so that we are on the same page - you did manage to run boxee at first and was only asking to turn vsync off? or was it always crashing?

Ive actually never got it to run - since oding the install only via the command line do i see the error - it looks like it loading from the gui but i havent got to see the fruit of all your hard work yet..

Appreciate the help - lookin forward to trying it out.. Let me know if u need any other information and ill do what i can do to provide

It never actually loaded on my laptop.. Difference this time is i tried to run it from the command line to see if i could spot what might be coming

Just a further update from me on this - Id remember from XBMC I had a couple of problems running full screen - so I did sudo apt-get install xserver-xgl and it now runs it unusably slow but i had the exact same problem with the SVN Build of XBMC - If i do the apt get on XBMC it works perfectly without the xserver-xgl installed

Hopefully this will help shine some light on the issue
I really like the gui on boxee - looks promising

been doing some messing about - but its so slow as to make it unusable regardless of vsync - I have the same problems using the SVN Build of XBMC with this xserver installed.. Didnt have any probs in feisty fawn. Look on the XBMC for the post on 100% CPU i expecet with boxee thats what i have

Real shame as id love to use it.. Any ideas on what i might be able to try to get it going.. I really like the concept of this
