Black screen of death?

Hello,
I received an invite to Boxee recently. Since on an everyday basis I use XP, I downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 ("Intrepid") and did a Wubi install especially to try out Boxee.

The machine I'm using is a Pentium M laptop with a Go7800GTX GPU. I set up Intrepid today, using the restricted/proprietary drivers. I installed Boxee as instructed on the website and ran it from the GNOME Applications menu.

However, I was greeted with a black screen, no response at all. I had to switch off and reboot my laptop to regain control.

I'm very new to Boxee so I don't know where the log file is located. If someone could direct me to it, I'll post the contents.

Switching to 173 nvidia drivers got me as far as the login screen. Although have now been held back by Boxee not recognising any mouse clicks (from either usb mouse or laptop touch pad)

hi digitalranger, welcome to the forums.

you should know that boxee isn't supported/recommended on intrepid, yet.

team-boxee was just not satisfied with the quality.

Strangely, I got a little further with Boxee this morning. Although video playback wasn't good and I still can't use my mouse with it.

I'll try it with 8.04 instead then.

I'm having a similar problem... when I launch Boxee, all I get is a blank/black screen. Only way out is Ctrl-C. Specs:

Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy)
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 MB RAM (minus some for onboard video)
NVidia GeForce 4MX onboard + 96.43.05 driver (using S-Video out)
OpenGL is OK, DRI enabled

This box has been fine as a MythTV box, but running Boxee gives me a black screen and the following terminal output:
