On the last version, I could see external library. Not so in the newest one. Anyone else encounter this?

Could you provide more information? Is your "External library" a usb connected drive or NAS? Have you properly directed boxee to scan your external drive?

They removed it due to Netflix not allowing boxee to index it anymore.

I was totally considering getting the Boxee set-top box... but now I'm reconsidering. I'm just not to thrilled with the idea of paying $200 for a product that can't guarantee key parts of its service because of power struggles with the outlets it draws its media from.

Anyone else feeling this way?

What would you suggest the team do?

Not really. Boxee is a lot more to be than media partners. I'm not going to lie and say that's not a big chunk, but the Boxee client does a lot outside of that. There's user developed apps, media indexing, and a great interface.

Besides, Team Boxee are constantly working to broker new media partner deals. Just this past week they landed tv.com for example. Also when Boxee gets recognized as "Last Gadget Standing (http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/01/09/boxee.brown/index.html)" at CES, it adds to the bargaining chips.

It's a legitimate concern: right now, boxee is dependent on providers like fox and ABC, not to mention Hulu, not to screw things up.

But, this type of media delivery is brand-spanking-new, and corporations are just learning the power of internet based TV (and learning that there's $$ involved). As the paradigm shifts, they'll be dependent on companies like Boxee to deliver the content, as users shift away from cable.

We can already see the first signs of this change, as comcast struggles to keep it's competitors underwater (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josh-silver/comcast-launches-tv-every_b_411057.html).

You will not get the boxee box to compete with boxes such as Roku just because it supports apps. Who cares about the apps anyway? One of the main things I like about the Boxee beta is the shift away from apps and more on the media. Apps should become extensions to the Boxee index, not destinations themselves.

Not being able to play all of Hulu content (TV MA) because of lack of login and now Netflix being out of the index is HUGE. LastFm integration is gone, lyrics are gone. Music queues and playlist are nowhere on the radar.

Has any of you guys follow what's been going on in Xbox and Media Center land. It is becoming harder and harder to turn people into Boxee. The social aspect is certainly not compelling enough (unless you are 20 something).

This issues must be on the TOP of Boxee or else it will just turn into a glorified Twitter client.
