View Full Version : add Music under /Users/Shared/Music
November 1st, 2008, 03:21 PM
Is there a way to add music from the location:
I tried to add a source but the Mac folders Users does not show. Users is probably an alias or something but I don't know the real location.
Is there a way to add the music to boxee?

welcome to the forums, dobby!
few questions to help narrow down the issue:
what does show up?
are you able to navigate to root / ?
if so, do the other root folders show up (/Applications /Library /System)?
in the meantime, you can manually edit your sources.xml file:

welcome to boxee
one way is to click on Settings in boxee's main menu, and there choose Media Sources :
- Local Sources are for files stored on your computer or storage devices attached directly to it . select "add new sources " and then browse to the contents location
- Network sources are all those directories on other computers and devices on your local area network.select "add new sources" and select the appropriate device/computer displayed or manually add the IP.
another way of adding a media source is via the Videos/Music/Pictures screen, select the Sources > Add Source.

Thanks for the replies,
agentlame I tried to find the sources.xml file but it a Boxee folder doesn't exist under ~/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/profiles/. Maybe this location changed in the latest alpha?
I know how to add sources but I can't see the following directories:
Because of this I can't locate the folder /Users/Share/Music
I like to keep my music there so that all users on my mac share the same music.

Yes, it looks like there is a bug in the directory code, in that it doesn't show any directories that begin with a capital letter. I had to go into the Settings -> Media Sources ->Manually Add Source and type in the directory path by hand. I didn't see my ~/Documents folder (where my Music folder lives). I only saw folders with lowercase letters. This is on Linux (openSUSE)

Thank jdarnold, that fixes the problem. Would be nice if it scanned the itunes xml file for the locations.
