I predict there will be an accessory for the Boxee Box which is essentially a stand that goes under the box that makes it flat/level so you can stack stuff on top.

I'm thinking the product will not even make it that far. Think it will be a 2010 product that sinks in the market place. As it is currently shown anyway.

Haha... @pahtz if there were an accessory, it would go on the top not the bottom
@whimsical Why don't you believe the product will succeed?

Succeed ? Heck let's see it gets released on the public market first. Some CES toys never even get released. We can discuss more if it does release to market. Until then won't waste my time.

If it gets released I am up for buying it as long as it is reasonably priced. I would love to get rid of the media center pc I have on my rack right now.

@lanceram They are pricing it somewhere around $200...although a price has not been determined yet...
@Kailey "Release to market" means the product goes from a prototype (at CES for example) and actually gets released to the public, and being able to be bought

I actually believe it will be released but I do think the price will keep it from being popular. $200 is twice as much as a roku and even though it does more, people will not pay that much. It also hurts that the software is free so anyone with a little extra hardware laying around can do everything that the boxee box can do for almost no extra money.
I want one but the most I will pay is about $140

Do you work for Roku?
I'm about sick of your spam posts/sig about how Boxee sucks so bad, and everything they do will fail.
If you dislike Boxee so much, why waist so much time on the forums?

Feel free to put me on your ignore list. Otherwise you might progress from sick to a flu. I'll continue to watch this boxee unfold. Just not impressed thus far which is why I have chosen Roku. Boxee has a lot of improving to do obviously. Roku is ahead of the game at this point which is why I am on board with them. So their you go. That about sums it up......

Just looked at the Roku site. I know they started with Netflix basically, now it looks like the pretty much took a lot of ideas from Boxee with the exception of Amazon video on demand.

Not to mention Roku always has had this "corporate" feel to me with their product. Their site is very rigid. Boxee is more playful and even though they are both pushing products, Boxee isn't all in your face about it. What I'm saying sounds weird I know, but I don't exactly know how to convey it better, lol.

ya but roku only has half of the channels boxee has and you cannot stream to it from your pc/mac/server right? So if that's the case then roku only does half of what boxee does, so rather a silly comparision if I am correct in that I cannot stream to it. Granted roku has amazon on demand which is cool and netflix but so will boxee in time but as I said if you cannot stream your own stuff to it then it is only half of a htpc imho, for granny and uncle johnny I guess it fits the bill and that is who the roku is targeting not us boxee kinda guys, we are a customization kind of crew, roku is to mainstream, it does have that corporate feel, plus it doesnt have the "tegra"

The Roku HD XR has a usb port that is currently non functional, but that will be changing. It also has extended wireless range N. Not to mention a normal shaped device. Though Roku has announced a future firmware update will light up the usb port to stream movie files from your computer. Along with numerous other firmware updates coming to each model. So yes you are right it currently does not stream movie files from your computer, but it will be. Not sure on date. Only the HD XR model has the usb port. So you will need that model to do it. It is not a feature that I will use so I got the HD model. I'm only interested in streaming for both video, and music. Your right though no comparison as boxee has no box on market to compare with. At CES yes, but will it actually be released ? Time will tell. If so not until Q2. I would imagine announced firmware updates for Roku will happen before Q2.
Roku sidelined the main topic of this thread........

You're missing the point entirely.
The hardware is just a platform.
Its the software where the magic happens. Even in the worst case scenario a boxee box was never released, the boxee software will continue to improve, support a wider range of generic hardware and devices, and expand its userbase.
Use what works for you, just dont continue to post non-constructive criticism here. Offer something constructive, or people will inevitably ignore you, and it will ultimately be just your own time being wasted, something you keep saying you are trying to avoid.

This thread is about hardware (box) predictions not software. Typically these kinds of boxes will be under powered. Your much better off with a mac mini, PC, etc. Paired with a harmony remote. That is really the bottom line. For now software is nothing to write home about, but hopefully that will change. Yes those couple posts of mine have really added up in excessive wasted time. My activity will be limited as I'm not a daily forum user anywhere. I'll consider your advice, but I have my own beat pattern.

From my understanding of what a Roku box is, I don't think it's fair to compare the 2 products.
As I see it, the Roku box is (mainly) a way to bring Netflix to your living room with some additional channels added on. Where as the Boxee Box is a way to stream the content you have stored on a local drive to your tv, with the added functionality of online video streaming. Really Boxee is its own entity, and then added on similar functionality as Roku.
The Boxee Box seems very promising and I feel that 200$ is a good deal for what it does. Its either that or build/buy an HTPC which in most cases is more expensive and doesn't have the same streamlines UI and box design.
Would have been nice to have an IR remote, but I'm pretty sure the RF benefits are worth it.
Though we will still have to see. I don't feel we've seen enough of the box performance wise to make any final decisions, and the software is still in beta.
